This bar was a lovely surprise! We were in the area, looking for a place to have an early dinner. As soon as my mother and I stepped inside, I saw this was a very special place. I love the original patterned tile floor, beautiful wood bar and so many other historical detail accents. The hamburger I ordered was one of the best I've ever had! When I mentioned that to the server, she shared that Cerno's burgers were named number one burgers in Illinois! I loved the ambiance...
They have good food & great chicken. Their bar was imported from Belgium & made out of mahogany. Pabst Blue Ribbon had it built & shipped here in 1893 for the World Fair in Chicago. Pabst moved the bar to Kewanee in 1898 & the man who owned the restaurant at that time purchased it. It's worth stopping in to get a bite to eat & see this beautiful piece of history.
The brisket sandwich is the best I've ever had, beyond excellent. Fries were super crispy and hot, perfectly cooked. Smash burger was delicious as well, according to my hubby. Friendly service, beautiful old bar back and quiet atmosphere, which is great at lunch. 10/10 would recommend and will return.
