If you are a person of color (African American), this may not be the establishment for you. The waitress was passively rude, no matter how many times we tried to be polite. However, when customers who were not people of color came in, she acted like a completely different person. She acted as if it was a bother for her to serve felt as it wasn’t very uncomfortable.

This place is like from the twilight zone - worn out, sticky, gross. A single female, with substantially impaired basic social skills, functions as bartender, waitress, cook. After 58 minutes wait for a grilled cheese, I informed her, I cancel the order and will leave, she yelled at me : “I told you I was by myself!!!” Scary, dismal hole. I never knew eerie places like that existed in America. The high reviews are a mystery, unless they were left by the local drunks!

Stepping into this place feels like a nostalgic flashback to a simpler dining experience. They offer weekly specials, with a focus on comfort classics like burgers, Italian beef, and, this week, a fish fry.
While I wasn't a fan of the cod nuggets—they were a bit dry—others at my table had the perch and absolutely loved it. The meal comes with a variety of side options, including my favorite: sweet potato fries.
The bar area is another highlight—a friendly spot with a well-stocked selection and TVs for entertainment. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

My wife and I were driving through Lake Bluff and stumbled upon Rita's Bar & Grill. We were immediately greeted by Shannon, the friendly bartender, who made us feel right at home. Despite running the entire front of house herself, her service was impeccable.
We both decided on the patty melt - my wife with the classic marble rye and I with sourdough. While we waited, Shannon brought us a sample of their homemade potato salad, which was absolutely delicious!
Our food arrived quickly, and the fries immediately caught my eye. They were the perfect size - crispier and tastier than those skinny fast-food fries. The patty melt itself was perfectly grilled, and the burger was juicy and flavorful. My only minor quibble was that the burger patty was a bit smaller than the bread. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but having burger in every bite would have been ideal.
Rita's clearly has a rich history, evident in the well-worn bar and the photos lining the walls. If I lived closer, this would definitely be my new local hangout. The food was great, and Shannon's fantastic service made our visit even better.
