There are not that many Greek restaurants around, so when we found out about this one, we were fine with driving over 30 minutes to enjoy my favorite, Mediterranean style food! The service was impeccable. Our waiter, Doug, was very attentive and knowledgeable too.Unfortunately, this was the only positive thing that I can say about Chrissoulas. Everything from the Drinks, appetizer, to the main course AND even dessert was subpar. How can you go wrong with Baklava I thought.I support the people who said that this was not really Greek food. Plus the food that came to our table certainly did not come close to looking like the pictures on the website. Also, the atmosphere was quite poor. The restaurant was so loud that we couldn’t even hear ourselves talk to one another. In addition, Chrissoulas was so terribly over priced. $30 for two simple cocktails? Our bill was over $200 dollars for a dinner we didn’t enjoy. For all these reasons I gave it only 1 star overall. Unfortunately our 5 star waiter was the only highlight of our New Year’s Eve dinner.

The atmosphere for New Year's Eve was lively and loud to be sure. Entering through a back door into a narrow space was odd and not the most welcoming set-up, especially having parked on the street along Milwaukee Ave. The dining area was comfortable, aside from a couple guests who were loud and could be heard from several tables away. Service was good and pleasant though robotic and somewhat forced. The gentleman refilling water was superb and always on his game! We never had less than half a glass full---much appreciated! We came to Chrissoulas, having read excellent reviews. The food was good, including the pasta with chorizo and octopus and gyro. The pork medallions were only three, however, with a whole lot of salad, leaving one guest in our party inadequately full and value for the money poor. Menu options were overpriced in general though not outrageous. Two televisions playing sports over the bar did not seem in keeping with a fine dining establishment, but rather with a sports bar. Overall Chrissoulas was a decent experience with good food but not deserving of the amazing reviews seen elsewhere---a solid 3-4 stars out of 5.

Terrible experience on New Year's Eve! $200 dinner for two with only 2 simple cocktails. Worst Baklava I've ever had and the fish was overcooked as well. Soup was borderline awful. Very loud, tight atmosphere. Feel that we were really taken advantage of. Wish we could get a refund!!!!

Our server was very good except for one important matter. It took him long time to take our entree order. He should have taken it when our appetizer was delivered but we were on our last bite of our appetizer when I had to catch his attention to take our entree order. He took the entree order of the table next to us before us. Yet, they were sat 15-20 minutes after we were seated. We were an adult couple and were seated between two tables with very young kids.

Food was phenomenal, flavorful, completely delicious; everything from appetizers to dessert (best bread pudding I've ever had). First time there and will be going back for sure. We all were impressed, especially my guests who often frequent the same restaurants, so this was a really positive experience.

My octopus appetizer was the best part of the dinner. My wife's fish was a pretty small cut and flavor was just ok. Our biggest disappointment was the service. Not sure if our waitress was in a hurry but I have never had someone ask if we wanted dessert before we even finish our main course. I was just finished with my main course and before I know it she brought over our check. My wife was still eating her dinner. I really don't know why we were rushed when the tables next to us were there before us and now after we left.

We really enjoyed the ceviche, greek wine and beer selection, and tasty entrees = branzino fish and smoked lambo gourmet gyro. The place had a fun atmosphere and excellent service!

Love this restaurant! Their menu offers a great variety of Greek inspired cuisine without offering too many choices. The daily specials are amazing, lamb chops and lobster rolls are two great examples. Good selection of wines and cocktails. We are big fans!

The food here is excellent and very special. Starting with the grilled octopus or avgolemono (egg lemon soup) is always a treat. We recently had the sea bass and seafood stew - both were very well prepared and truly enjoyable.

Went here for the first time yesterday. Have driven by many times but never went in. Good location in downtown Libertyville Went with another couple before a show. Service was good, and the atmosphere was cozy. They were able to get through in time to get to the show and kept us on pace. Delicious cocktails, proper glassware, and included garnish. Variety of choices, and were real cocktails, not drinks. There were 4 of us, so we had 4 different entrees and 2 appitizers. We had the saganaki, which was real-life flamed and a crispy out and melty in, a good version. We also had the brussle sprouts, which were crispy fried outside on a bed of feta cream with honey drizzle. something cold. The combo of hot and cold was interesting. For the dinners we had, lamb / chorizo pasta with grilled octopus. This was the winner of the meal. The pasta was just minorly overcooked. The octopus was braised to perfection and chargrilled. It's completely tasty and still yummy on the reheat. Secondly, we had the 1/2 greek chicken, not too many comments, but devoured the whole thing. For 3, we had the grilled octopus appetizer as an entree, a good tasting small plate. She got the cruncy fried in duck fat potatoes as good as you could imagine, could eat them any time. Lastly, we had the gyro. I knew it was not "typical"going in and was excited to try a new version. The sauce, tomatoes, onions, and pita were as good as i expected . The lamb was pulled apart. Not quite a juicy or flavorful as i had hoped. Was a good idea. It just needed to be a little bolder and fattier. We had a shared baklava , was flavorful, and was different, not a gooey as we have had before. We understand that it will become a ramen place for the winter, which is interesting, and we'll most likely try. Overall, we liked the place, the staff, and the location. It's worth another visit.

Hadn't been back there for 2 years and that was a mistake. The food and service was very good and very reasonably priced. It would be nice if they could dampen the sound level.

The grilled octopus was outstanding. My wife had the pork and I had the swordfish. Both dishes were prepared perfectly. The only complaint was that it was noisy and we had a hard time hearing each other. Even with this we will still eat hear again.

Our server was excellent! Saganaki was battered which was different but tasty, lamb kebabs good and branzino a bit too salty but still enjoyable. The atmosphere was cozy but not really intimate. The ceiling string lights are a nice touch. Definitely going back!

Came here for my husbands birthday, the food was incredible! The atmosphere was lively and fun we even brought our 11month old with us and they had a high chair which was appreciated! Cannot wait to come here again, a great addition to downtown libertyville!

The service was outstanding. The food was delicious (and the servings very generous!). Wish it was a tad bit quieter, and it was hard to have a conversation. Overall, though, and lovely experience.
