huh what

TLDR:Bait and switch pricing, awful re-heated food, sketchy customer service.I'm a son of Indian immigrants. This is the worst Punjabi food I've ever had.Takeout order to share with my elderly mom - she saw the sign from Rt 21; she was heartbroken and had digestive issues from the 'food'.Food:- We ordered mattar paneer and dal makhani, and asked for light on the spice. The woman we spoke to snarkily replied that both dishes were not spicy.- Mattar paneer is my favorite Punjabi dish - I've had it 100s of times, and this was the spiciest version I've had, to the point of overwhelming all other minimal flavor from the curry.- Dal makhani was not spicy, but was stale, had a bitter aftertaste and just plain tasted bad.- Roti tasted like chalky cardboard, even when warm.- Raita tasted more bitter than all other raita sides I've had.- My mom ordered dahi puri.- Potato + channa filling tasted like congealed chalk.- Dahi (yogurt) was too sweet.- Green chutney was an overload of mint with a hint of coriander. We ended up throwing much of it out, which in the Indian culture, is a major taboo. But every restaurant messes up, has a bad day etc. Right? Right?Service / pricing:- Website prices are lower by at least 2-4 dollars than actual. When I asked why the total was higher, I was informed that the real price is updated when the entree is added in their online order system. Classic bait and switch gouging - I didn't order online, I ordered by phone.- When I confronted the person manning the front desk about this, she smirked, shrugged her shoulders (probably the same smug woman who took the phone order).- They forgot to put the roti order in the bag, and that smirking woman had to run to my car as I was driving away. One last point - look at the number of 1-star reviews in the last 1-2 years. Many of them are from people of Indian descent. Trust us, we know our cuisine. Also note that not a single person associated with this location has responded to the negative reviews - not the owners or any other staff. They don't care. Happy to charge more than other Indian restaurants in the area, serve low-quality re-heated junk, and laugh all the way to the bank.Drive a little longer - bunch of other better Indian spots within a few miles.

I recently dined at this Indian restaurant before catching a show at the Marriott Theatre, and unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations. As a lover of Indian cuisine, I was eager to indulge, but the experience left much to be desired. The food lacked authenticity, with flavors that failed to capture the essence of true Indian cuisine. The food wasn't horrible but I can say I've had better! To add to the disappointment, the service was lacking. When I requested raw onions, I was surprised to be informed that it would cost an additional $5 for an onion salad. In my experience, this is not typical of Indian restaurants, where such accompaniments are often provided generously. Moreover, the quality of the chicken dish was disappointing, as it was dry and lacked the succulence and flavor one would expect. While the prices were in line with those of other Indian restaurants, the overall experience did not justify the cost. Regrettably, I do not plan on returning to this establishment. For those seeking an authentic Indian dining experience, I would recommend exploring other options in the area.

We all enjoyed our Indian food it was very tasty and will definitely make it back there again. The staff was very accommodating pleasant and responsive. We were also celebrating a birthday and had a delicious chocolate bunt cake with vanilla ice cream. ?

So me and a friend went in last night for a quick bite. Not a busy night there at all. We ordered shrimp pakoras which were good and got a few indo-Chinese dishes or so we thought. The noodles were loaded with oil and no flavor whatsoever. It's indo-chinese with no green onions or garlic. It tasted more like I would get something at the food court in the mall. I asked for cut lemons which didn't come. The chutneys were bought after the pakoras since we asked for it. $13 for a glass of wine ?. Between the two of us I don't feel it was worth my money. They used to be good but not anymore. I would prefer they work on getting better chefs and improving their menu options.

Love the food, ambiance and the nicest staff. Fabulous sized portions and the lemon rice is the best. We love eating here. Highly recommend.

The food is always great here. We had a late dinner at 8:00 and they were so accommodating, even giving us a couple complimentary items to try (which were so delicious and will be added to our order the next time we visit). Friendly people and amazing food - highly recommend!

Absolutely delicious! We have eaten here for years but our latest dining experience was our best to date. The food and the service were both flawless. If you have always wanted to try Indian but were a bit intimidated by the menu, this is the place for you. The staff will help you choose a range of dishes to sample. It's a fun place to meet friends for conversation over interesting food.

We've been coming to this restaurant for 8 years and have sadly seen the quality slide consistently over the last few years. They seem to be constantly short of staff and have closed the restaurant unexpectedly on days. Heating issues on other days. And the food is below average at best. Not sure how long they can stay open at this rate.

They recently added items like chips and salsa and fried calamari, which takes away from the authenticity (in my opinion). I've never seen an Indian restaurant offering these food items. That being said the lamb biryani is fantastic. They're also very good about handling allergies. We have celiac, nut and seafood allergies and we've never had any issues with the food.

Inconsistent is the classification for food. The atmosphere (including good music) tries hard to make up for ordinary taste and overpriced menu. It's been a while since I've had to rate an Indian restaurant in Chicago less than 4. Hopefully they will recover.

I had dinner here on Friday. Everything was delicious - Dal Makhani, Chicken Tikka and Eggplant Bharta. And, the service was so kind and prompt. This restaurant is a gem. If you love Indian food as I do, check it out!Vegetarian options: There are many delicious vegetarian dishes to choose.

Summary: Over the top prices. Dishes are $20+ Awful Service. It seems like the Food is not freshly prepared. Our first time at Marigold. Waitress came to take order and we told her that we needed some more time to decide. Before we even finished saying, she dashed out. Two mins later she comes back. We asked if they could do spicy level "medium" to some of the entrees we were ordering. To that the rude waitress snarked and said that they only do mild or hot. We decided to not eat there and told her so. She just walked off. I've never been to any restaurant that is not able to do medium spice level (esp. an Indian restaurant where spicy levels are a must). I think this restaurant prepares dishes early in the day and then just warms it up when customers place orders. Will never go back. Highly discourage potential patrons from going to this restaurant!

Not the best opening waitress, should do a bit more training on how to handle customers (I was very polite)
