Also tried the cumin lamb--very cumin-y, so only get it if you like that flavor. I was a fan.
The eggplant was also good.

Easily the best chow mein in the area. *almost* perfect but truly amazing, subtle umami flavor in the chow mein I'm always left looking for at other places. The orange chicken had massive chunks, ample sauce, and was tender and delicious. So happy to have such a good spot nearby!

First time having S.Y Chef and on Thanksgiving too! This was delicious. We are new to the area and we’re looking for our go-to Chinese restaurant and we found it. The sesame chicken was flavorful and there were actual pieces of chicken in it. The fried rice was fresh and there were a ton of veggies in it. The chow mein wasn’t too greasy and packed with umami flavor! Not pictured-the vegetable eggrolls, will definitely be getting those again. Would recommend!!

This is our favorite Chinese restaurant in the suburbs. It doesn’t look very fancy tucked away in a strip mall, but it’s the best and most authentic flavor.
Our favorites are the eggplant with garlic sauce, hand pulled pancake, dry chili crisp chicken, twice cooked pork, and cold sesame noodle.
It’s all so delicious and everyone should definitely try this place!

Came here with a group of 10. Kara was very flexible working with me - she gave me until the day of to let her know what my party size was for a 6:15pm dinner reservation.
We were all comfortably seated and the waitress was very hospitable.
We ordered: (Apps) hot and sour soup; (sides) napa cabbage pork dumplings and pork/shrimp/chive dumplings, and (2) scallion pancakes; (entrees) dried chili chicken, orange chicken, mongolian beef, mapo tofu, and shredded pork with garlic sauce; and (veg) bokchoy with mushrooms, stir dried string beans and garlic.
The orange chicken was very good - the coating was nice and crunchy. The star favorite was the shredded pork.
My friends enjoyed the dumplings so much, they got the 80ct frozen ones to go. We ate every last bit and had no to-go boxes.
A hidden gem of this place was the chili oil - spectacularly flavorful and spicy, despite looking like any old chili oil you see at every other chinese joint.
A lovely way to end our group hike at the Morton Arboretum!! 100/10!!!

This quaint Chinese restaurant is located in a humble corner, with simple decor, and minimal online existence. However, this is not one of those “fake” Chinese eateries who sell inauthentic Chinese food with strange taste. S.Y Chef cooks true Manchurian dish by the people who are from Northeast China. Simply outstanding! If you want to experience what real Chinese food tastes like, this is the place to go.

Hidden within a small strip mall is a very modern establishment with about thirty seats and has online ordering from an app (Beyond Menu) or their web page. Paper menu is a work of art with large print and all relevant information.
