We go every year for birthday celebrations. The food and ambiance is very good. They seat 8 to a table so best to bring friends because chairs are very close together. Our chef was struggling with some of the regular 'show' skills. He also set his hand on fire with the 'Choo choo' volcano onion. Never saw a flame so high there before! Had some crunchy egg shells left in the food from the egg trick. He told me he has 26 years experience. I felt sorry for him. He isn't great with the camera either. It captured more of the people behind us and two of us with eyes closed so have your phone camera ready. It takes better pictures. But I will aways come back for the food. Benihana's Trio is excellent.
Food was great, chef was good, server was okay. We celebrated birthdays and an anniversary, 10 people and it didn't feel celebratory.
Horrible experience, they charge for fried rice and never tell you I let you get the bill for $7.50 per person for fried rice. Overall, bad experience
The food was so salty. From the salad to the steak. I also feel like some of the portions are getting smaller over the years. We have been celebrating birthdays at the Lombard location for years and I am not sure we will be returning.
Everything was very salty. We have been to the restaurant before, not sure if it was our chef or how they cook now. Not sure we will return. Loved the show!
Have been going to Benihana for decades and can not believe the shrimp quality (they were definitely poor quality, no tails and the chef undercooked them and served them whole instead of the traditional cut up into thirds. ) Three of us ordered the hibachi shrimp entree and none of us could finish tasted so bad. The tenderloin steak tasted awful (poor quality) and was overcooked (3 people ordered rare and all were served medium) the mushrooms w the steak were so overpeppered nobody could eat them. There was barely any zucchini in veg side. What has happened over there??? My parents went to the benihana in Chicago first time 1969 and we have all been going to the one in Lombard but no more.
We were so excited to celebrate my daughter's birthday at Benihana's — we even drove over an hour to make it special. Unfortunately, it was anything but. While our service at my table (thanks to José and our amazing chef) was excellent, my daughter's table was the complete opposite. Her cook never introduced himself, never engaged with her at all, and didn't even prepare all of the food. There was no interaction, no personality, and no birthday acknowledgment — even though our reservation specifically stated we were celebrating her birthday. To make matters worse, her server disappeared for long stretches. My own server had to remind their server to come over and sing happy birthday — which should have been automatic at a place known for celebrations. The contrast between the two tables was frustrating and heartbreaking. This was supposed to be a fun, lively, memorable birthday, and instead my daughter felt overlooked and uncelebrated. For a restaurant with such a strong reputation for showmanship and hospitality, this experience was shockingly lackluster. Sadly, it's not the birthday memory we hoped for.
Overall a fun time at Benihana - while we didn't have a chef one would traditionally expect, our chef was great with our kids and put on a good show. Food overall was good, but a bit limiting for a vegetarian. However, would come here again given how happy my kids were here!
It was great. We got to see the fire onion & everything. They served us my birthday cake & cut it for us & did all of our requests. Definitely recommend.
I have been to this location many times and have loved my experience there. This time, however, the chef was not up to the Benihana standard that I have come to expect. The Japanese Waygu, especially, was extremely over-salted. I've had it here before and it was incredible. The flavors the chef created were not as tasty as previous visits and every component had too much salt, everyone in my party independently shared this with me. I've been coming here for years, and have never had a less than great experience until this visit. Our server was very attentive to our needs.

We had a wonderful chef named Opars who had a laughing and entertained us very much! The food was excellent and the service was great!
We had good service. The food was good. It was a little pricey for the food we got. And the dinner felt rushed.
Dined in with friends. Atmosphere was nice. Sat at the bar while I waited for friends to arrive. Bar service was fast. Drink was good. Chose to sit at a table so we can converse. The food was just average. The wait staff was friendly but our waiter forgot we told him that one in our party was allergic to shrimp. Dish arrived with shrimp so she had to wait for a while to get her dish. Rice bowls arrived when we were almost through our dishes. Quality not comparable to other hibachi restaurants I've patronized. Experienced it but won't return.
We love coming to Benihana. It's a very special place for me and my wife. The food is always great!
I feel like we were rushed to order our food. The chef was very boring compared to the the time I went to the location in February (downtown Chicago)). Overall, the food was good, however, it was my daughter's birthday and she did not like the experience.
