RIP STEVES :( me and my dad have been going to Steves for years... got food today under the NEW owners... oooff terrible. Hotdogs were Not cooked! fries had grease dripping off them. The fries were always greasy, but were good and just right. Not the same anymore, too bad because we loved going there. Will not be going back. Hopefully the animals will enjoy.
Used to go to this place at least 2 twice a week and loved it, but now after going today and seeing that it was under new management and after tasting the food I will probably not be going back again. I got the # 5 which is supposed to come with 2 hot dogs, fries and a drink and got 2 hot dogs that were on par with maybe a concession stand hotdog, and got 0 fries. Very disappointed and hope it will improve as time goes on.
Husband went to get chicken gyros, came home and said I wasn't going to be happy. New owners and cashier had no idea what she was doing. Ordered chicken gyros, grilled onions only and honey mustard sauce. Got burnt, dried out chicken, sour cream and one piece of onion. Also got oily fries that we didn't order. All trashed, waste of money. Steve's was a staple in Lombard with repeat customers. This place will not be open long.
New owners since December 2022 and the food is horrible. We ordered chicken gyros, grilled onions only and honey mustard sauce. Got burnt, dried out chicken, one string of onion and sour cream(?). Also got bags of oily fries that we didn’t order. All trashed, waste of money. Steve’s was a solid spot for Lombard residents with plenty of repeat customers. This place will close before summer.
Steve’s Gyros is under new mgmt. when I went there I knew something was wrong because i been going to this place for years and never had a bad experience but when we got home to eat our food it was horrible the gyro was over cooked pita was brunt and hard the Philly was cold and dry and the fountain pops was very flat. So I called today I spoke with the owner I went in today he made sure the food was cooked correctly and it was the food was great no complaints on the 2nd time around. That’s the reason for a 2 stars. The cooks need to be properly trained and work faster the cashier should never help cooked the food she was punching on the register collecting money using the same gloves she was preparing food with. When the old ppl that was there they had it all together and was fast and food was hot. My husband and I decided not to go back but we will allow them time to get things together because if they don’t they will lose a lot of new and old customers.
Beware!!! I wish I could have given a 0 for their review.Paid almost $40 for really really low quality food. Ordered 2 gyro combo with extra meat and ordered 2 sides of cheese to dip my fries in.Gyros were very burnt and dry, they didn't add any extra meat that I paid for (barely had enough meat to even be a regular sized gyro), and the worst part was that they flipping added the cheese dipping sauce inside the gyros. Who does that???They forgot the gyro sauce, and my drinks that the combos come with wasn't with my take out order. I also ordered mozzarella sticks, and they fried them for so long, that the cheese filling inside were cooked right out of the sticks. Enjoyed fried breaded tunes with no filling. Best part was that I had waited for over 40 minutes to get this nasty food. This business is being run by new owner. Only 2 of them working here and they barely get the orders out in a timely manner. Save your money and a frozen T.V dinner instead. You'll probably have a better tasting and a better value meal for the price instead of this "new Steve Gyros".
Now I normally don't have anything bad to say about this place I always have a good experience in the food is good but today man it was a whole different experience. First off The original people that work there weren't working today it was a whole different crew. The lady who was there looked stressed out and having a hard time speaking with Hispanic cook who was doing his best trying to work I am not sure if he's new or not but it looked like he was having a hard time himself with her but she didn't have the greatest attitude. But I ordered the gyro special but after eating it might as have been called it the disappointing special. The french fries were over salted and cold. the gyro didn't have any flavor and overcooked. My recommendation is avoid this place till the original people come back or if the place got sold and it's under new management and don't go here just avoid.
Under new ownership and the food is not the same anymore. Took 20 mins for a Philly and I was the only one there. This was our go to spot for great greasy food. I guess the party is over. Sad
WOW!! Not sure what has happened, the food and service has been TERRIBLE!! Cold food, waiting 40 minutes for hot dogs and a cheeseburger, they have forgotten to give us our fries!! Not sure if they are under new ownership, if they are, they better get it together quick, they are going to lose all of their customers!! This is the bottom of my hotdog bun, my husband's looked the same, we have no idea what's going on over there, I hope they get back to normal!! Steve's has always been a favorite of ours!!!
Went last night for the first time since they reopened. Definitely not the same place. There were like 5 customers in there and all of them complained that the fries were cold and greasy. It took 15 minutes for me to get 2 plain hot dogs and fries and oh yeah the fries were cold. The girl put one hot dog in the bag and then the fries and just left it sitting there. They should have left it closed. Will not go back.

It used to be my favorite gyro place, not any more, apparently the owner has changed and it sucks big time, I was told that my two gyro plates would be ready in 10 min, it took 40 min, when I open the box…. Damn,, chicken instead of beef, no pita bread no tzanziki, when I return, and explaining why I was returning they even didn’t verify, looks like they knew they missing… worst experience ever, be careful, it’s not the same place anymore
Stopped in at Steve's Gryo to try a new local place and it did not disappoint. I got the best philly cheesesteak I have ever had! Very reasonably priced! They do only take cash but have an ATM inside if needed.
Coming from Chicago, I love a good divey gyro and hotdog joint. I was super excited to try Steve’s even saying “yeah this is exactly what I’m looking for” as we pulled into the lot.Honestly - the worst gyro I’ve ever had and some of the worst food I’ve had in recent memory. The gyro meat was cut thick, greasy, and was mushy. Fries were mushy and saltless. Breaded mushrooms were not good and the ranch that came with seemed like it was cut with about 1/4 water.Staff was nice when we expressed our dissatisfaction and made us burgers to replace - the patties tasted like frozen grade-school cafeteria burgers and unfortunately were no more edible than the gyros. We left deciding what we are gonna have for dinner. Save your money.
Probably the best gyros place around! Huge gyros sandwich! The hand cut fries are delicious and they give you a huge bag of them. Super fast service. Always a great choice for lunch.
The Polish is where it's at. One of the best in Chicagoland. It's a Maxwell style with grilled onions, mustard, AND relish! It works.
