Hidden Manna is a true hidden gem tucked away in Old Matteson, a south suburb of Chicago. This cozy, out-of-the-way spot serves up fantastic Creole-inspired dishes. On my last visit, I went for the hand-packed hamburger topped with spicy pepper jack cheese, while my wife enjoyed a fresh grilled salmon salad. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and the portions were generous. We kicked things off with a couple of standout appetizers: the tangy fried green tomatoes and savory fried mushrooms. Though I was too stuffed to try the bread pudding (next time!), the service was excellent and the prices were fair.

Food was so good- shrimp n grits (they use chicken sausage-yasss), side of collard greens and mimosa. Celebrating my sister'd birthday and our server Pedro was awesome- brought her a slice of a dang good slice of pound cake.

Definitely will be visiting again and agai n.

I've been coming to hidden Manor Cafe for the past 8 years. It's still the best hidden gem in the South suburban area. The food is always great coupled and with a great atmosphere. You can't go wrong.

I wanted to provide my honest opinion. Unfortunately I was not satisfied with my experience at Hidden Manna Cafe. I love the fact of supporting any African American business. This restaurant fell short of my expectations. I brought my mother here on October 6th for her birthday. After carefully reviewing all creole restaurants I choose Hidden Manna Cafe. First off I sent a message to the restaurant to see if I could make a reservation, the owner called me back right away and was delightful. When we arrived, we were seated and our server was manurable. He seem to be rushing us, we arrived at 2:00 PM and they close at 3:00 PM. I wanted to order a bottle of La Marca Prosecco which was on the menu for $30. He brought back a glass. When we figured out the confusion, they did not have a bottle of the Prosecco, so we had to settle for a glass each. Our server keep coming over every two minutes, which made us feel uneasy and rushed. I had the fried catfish, buffalo mushrooms and fried green tomatoes. The food was mediocre. I don't eat fried food much, so this was supposed to be a treat. The food tasted like the grease was old. I asked if they served beignets and he said no and someone walking from the kitchen said they did. He told us the cost was $4.00 per beignets and then came back to say they were $4 for 3. It seemed he was either very new or did not know much of the business. Unfortunately, I was not impressed will not be going back.

I went after church last Sunday with my husband and daughter and granddaughter.
The seating is very close and tightly fit.
The food was a bit over cooked...and the
servers were rushing about as though it
was crowded and it wasn't. We had to
ask for several condiments several times.

Food was mediocre. The French toast had a strange taste and the eggs didn’t have any flavor despite having cheese on them. It’s my first try and I wouldn’t come back for more.
