I ordered a gyro with onion rings. They only have one size for onion rings and I got 7 onion rings for 4$. When I said this must be a mistake because a large basket of fries is cheaper, the guy working there said it’s on 6oz of onion rings for the basket. Gyros are amazing there but onion rings are rip off. Onions and potatoes are the same price and effort to cook
Ordered a beef dipped with cheese, & was given a sandwich completely submerged in au jus. I asked for hot peppers and was given a mix with raw celery, green bell peppers and jalapeños. If I knew that was their idea of a beef, I would have not of ordered that.
Food was very good, service was fine. The establishment needs a makeover/update, other then that our experience was good.
Still good even under new ownership. Fresh shaved meat gyros are the best! Nice staff super friendly
Service was fast and friendly. The mozzarella sticks were good! The chicken tenders were nice and hot. The only downside is that they are not true tenders but are processed meat and have a bit of a spongy texture.
Outstanding grilled chicken pita. Absolutely the best around! I’m so glad we stopped in! Fries were excellent too!
People need to relax on the hating on this place. I’ve ate here when Pete was the owner and now with the new ownership. The food quality is still outstanding with extremely affordable pricing!! To leave 1-2 stars for food that cost less than McDonald’s and is actually real blows my mind. Still very worth the price along with speedy food timing. Give the place a shot you won’t be disappointed:)
Stopped by here this past first week of May while giving my wife & boys a short tour of McHenry County. Earlier that day, my family & I were at the Tulip Fest in Spring Grove and decided to hang around the area a bit before going back home so I mentioned I'd take em around.
Haven't been out this way in a while being we live in Beach Park in northeastern Lake County. I myself have been to McHenry/McHenry County quite a bit when I lived in Round Lake from May '89-Nov '02.
Anyways the Chicago grill is on par with the usual Chicago style grub which was quite good. Located along busy IL 120 in the heart of downtown McHenry, I bet this place gets flooded with take-out orders during the work week.
That's one thing about the Chicago area is that if you're gonna live here then you better learn how to love Chicago style food because if you don't then you're a communist (just kiddin').
Not sure when we'll be back in the area but when we are and if we get that craving for Chicago style grub, we know where to go. I try my best to support local and hope for continued boomin' business for the owner(s).

Love the food but when I order a pint which is 16oz and the girl at the counter tries to say a pint is 8oz it's a little off setting... and then to tell me the sauce is usually $5 for the pint. $5 is the doordash price. I ordered straight from Alex's. Trying to tell me that 5 little 2oz cups of sauce is a steal cuz they are .75 cents a cup. The girl needs to go back to school cuz I paid almost $4 which was the price for a pint of the sauce. Food is still great but the counter help needs some customer service training. I've been working customer service for well over 30 years and she had very poor customer service.

Lady at front is extremely rude and doesn't understand having a conversation.
She just throws a clipboard at you and doesn't even address you to sign something. I think if she said "here is your card , please sign " .
I used to come here as a kid and I miss the older staff who made the experience a bit more enjoyable:(

It was the worst food ever. Tamales were so dried out we could not eat them. The coke tasted like they never cleaned the machine the fries totally SUCKED. WE WONT BE GOING BACK TO ALEXES EVER AGAIN. Tommy's is 100% better
New owners. The pop tastes dirty like the machine hasn’t been clean, nasty tomatoes on the hot dogs and they serve dried out tamales. I will never be back!!
