I’ve lived in the NE area of Illinois now for 4 years. I’ve been to Applebee’s in McHenry twice. The first time was about two years ago. It was dreadful. Horrible, slow service. Luke warm food. I swore I’d never go back there.
But, I had a craving for one of my former favorites - Four-Cheese Mac & Cheese with Honey Pepper Chicken Tenders. I should have known better.
I ordered Car Side to Go. As they suggested in a text to me, I used their app to let them know I was on my way. I arrived. And I sat there. And sat there, and sat there. Finally decided to call. It rang, and rang, and rang. No one ever answered. Tried again. Same outcome. So I went in, waited to speak with what appeared to be the only person working, told him I’d been sitting out front for 20 minutes waiting for my order.He apologized and ran to check on my meal, and then brought it back with him. I thanked him and left.
Made my way home only to be disgusted by the tasteless, cold food. There was no identifiable cheese of any kind in the Mac & cheese. In fact it was dry with no seasoning on the pasta at all. The chicken was cold. An ordered breadstick was no where to be found. I had PB&J for dinner.
What ever happened to the Applebees of yore with a great staff, great atmosphere, and good food? I am so done with Applebees! I’d call and ask for a refund, but as I found out while I sat in the Car Side to Go spot for quite a period of time, they don’t answer their phone either. 🙄
Farewell to one of my former favorites. It’s time for me to go. And I think it’s time for you to go as well. Soon.
UPDATE: I received a phone call from Tony, a local C-level leader of Applebees. Tony listened patiently to my concerns and agreed that it was unacceptable and poor management. I could tell he genuinely cared and was going to take corrective action. It meant a lot that he took the time to call, and it brings me hope that he will see that it gets corrected.

Got food to go and I understand that it would be better in restaurant but the quality and taste was marginal at best. ALL of my soup was absorbed in bread in soup.NO LIQUID.
Ordered 2 chicken sandwiches and some loaded fries from there website for delivery. Total cost with delivery and tip, $52. Received 1 chicken sandwich with 3 little pieces of wilted lettuce, a sadly cut thin slice (if you could call it that) of tomato and no mayo. 1 tub of mystery condiment that was not labeled (food allergy's be dammed i guess). Fries where missing the sauce (probably what was supposed to be in the tub but wasn't). And the second sandwich missing. Called the store. Spoke to who i was told was the manager, explained 3-4 times what was wrong. Gave my number and waited for a return call as asked.
Called them back an hour and ten minutes later as i had not heard anything. Was first told that they didn't have time to look into it yet. So two hours and no food, no resolution, hungry for the food i paid for, they offered me to come get a remake. Sorry what? I paid delivery, i paid to not have to come get it. They tried to pass it off as doordashs fault. Told me i have to contact doordash to have it redelivered, even though i placed my order through the Applebee's website. I explained again i ordered through their website. They said they could comp me. Since i wont partake of this establishment in the future, i requested a full refund so that i could order from some where else that would deliver me my food.

Always plenty of options for food! Wonton Tacos and Boneless Wings are our favorites. Bourbon Steak or Bourbon Chicken and Shrimp are delicious. Can't go wrong with a burger here either. There are new mixed drinks options every time we come. Monica was very pleasant, attentive, and friendly! Thank you!!
The staff is extraordinary and go above and beyond to make your dining experience a great one! Candy visited our table and was extremely friendly and funny, she made our day talking to us! Mama T was our waitress and was great to talk to as well! We loved the food and will definitely be back!
