The food is really good, but this is the second time the service was not the greatest. I ordered online almost an hour ahead and was told upon arrival that there was a large order right before so it will still be a while. Definitely need work on customer service to match the food.

First time coming and it was so good I had to write a review right after I left. All the food was executed perfectly. Great food selection and the best dessert items ex. Banana pudding. Home run. Touch down. 3 point buzzer beater for Epic Deli.

Epic Deli isn’t just a stop for food — it’s a stop for stories. Walk in and you feel it: the walls hum with nostalgia, with laughter, with the clatter of forks and half-spoken confidences over greasy plates and neon lights. It’s a joint where portion sizes don’t whisper — they shout, “Come hungry. Stay late. Leave full.”

Their menu is a manifesto for appetite. From the loaded “Leslie Chow” sandwich to the classic “Epic Reuben,” each dish lands like a punch of comfort and grease, made with no pretense but plenty of heart. Fries? Greek fries. Appetizers? Maybe fried pickles, maybe deep-fried cheesecake, depending on your flavor creed. Vegetarian, vegan, even keto options walk in the door with a shot — because Epic doesn’t judge tastes, just appetite.

But the magic? The magic isn’t just the food. It’s the vibe: equal parts dive bar, comic-book café, and after-hours confessional. Neon posters on the wall. Loud laughter at the next table. Slang, jokes, stories — some raw, some ridiculous, all real.

You come in for a sandwich. You leave with a half-smile, a greasy napkin, and a tiny load of local lore. Epic Deli doesn’t need to charm you with fine china or quiet jazz. Its charm is in the hand-cut fries, the stacked subs, the ease of slipping into a booth and feeling like you’ve always belonged.

If food had a soul, Epic Deli’s menu would read like its heartbeat: audacious, unapologetic, and alive. The kind of place you tell your friends about the next day — or don’t. Some nights, you just want to hold that memory yourself.

In McHenry’s wider mosaic of casual spots, Epic Deli still stands out. Not because it tries hardest, but because it stays honest. Because when you open the door, the table is already set for whoever shows up.

If you want comfort without pretense, flavor without fuss, and a place that feels equal parts home and adventure — then this place deserves the name it wears loud: Epic.

My only complaint is that we don't live closer! Last night we met up with some friends for my daughter's birthday, and when we got there we were greeted with balloons and a Happy Birthday sign! The guy who was working out front, Joshua, was a rock star! He so accommodating to our big party and our numerous requests. Thank you so much for being so welcoming and inviting and setting the mood and atmosphere for my daughter and her friends. And of course, as always, the delicious vegan gyros!

This place exceeded all expectations—and the bar was already set pretty high thanks to the rave recommendation! Their vegan menu alone is worth the visit. It was honestly hard to choose because everything sounded incredible, but the vegan chorizo Crunchwrap was a total standout. Bursting with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly fresh—nothing was lacking. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could!

The pinball machines added a fun, nostalgic touch, and the customer service was truly phenomenal. Highly recommend!

Like many of the recent reviews, what is going on with the pop machine?! This seems like a simple fix, and the first of many improvements that can be made to get back to the glory days. I remember going here a couple years ago and being blown away. Now, the food was over-seasoned (a lot), and all the pop was flat along with my expectations.

Talk about nostalgia for Gen X! Pinball machines, arcade games, air hockey! And some Epic sandwiches to boot. Loaded with toppings, don't let the price fool you. Portions are excellent. Side game is fantastic. This was my first visit, it won't be my last. Hot and cold sandwiches available. Don't sleep on Epic Deli.

The food was off the charts. I was a little disappointed that I had place a pick up order mid morning for 1 o'clock and the order was not ready to go on time.

Staff was super friendly and accommodating. I found out how aptly named this place was when I tried the food. The epic reuben was most definitely EPIC, and the fries must've been fried in unicorn tears and tossed with fairy dust because they were magical. 11/10 would recommend!
