HUGE, HUGE disappointment! My husband and I have dined here many times, and when we attend a fest if Plum Garden is there we always eat from their stand. Tonight we went to the restaurant for dinner. I ordered an egg roll and I regret not taking a picture. The server tried telling us that there were no changes made. It was totally different than what we've had in the past. The meat was minced, not chunky, no shrimp, no sprouts, not crunchy, and was very dry. I didn't eat it. The Hong Kong Chicken was good, but the sauce was thinner/watery. It used to be a little thick. It also had a different flavor, and was dark in color. I remember it being more light in color. Unfortunately this is our last time eating their food. My husband and I both agree that the restaurant and the food are far from as ice and good as they used to be.

The appetizers were good. The main dish however could have been better. The fried rice that came with my dinner tasted sour. Not sure if that was due to bad rice or the soy sauce had vinegar in it. I took one bite and that was the last. I've had better Chinese food somewhere else and less expensive with more flavor. I would say since the change of owners the food isn't as good anymore & I've been coming here since I was little.

Server was ok, but could have been more attentive. Food just tasted off and not up to par or what we are used to. One enter (pork chop mein) was taken off menu and members in our party were disappointed.

So we had been here before years ago, and we weren't impressed. Recently saw a review on facebook that stated the food went down hill, but now has been ramped up. So we decided to try again. Loved the mandarin egg roll, and the steamed potstickers. The vegtable egg foo young was good, the cashew chicken and mongolian beef had good flavor but the meat is cut way to thin which I'm sure caused them to be overcooked and dried out. Our server was phenomenal. Will definetly go back for the appetizers, and may try a new dish. Hope they can get the meats to a better cut and tenderness.

Plum Garden is one of our go-to dining experiences. The food is incredible and the staff is amazing. If you are fortunate to get Ben to serve you, you won't forget him. One of the best servers I have ever come across.

Our server Ben was excellent! The food was excellent. The music was so loud you couldn't hold a conversation. The other customers were having to talk loud as well to hear over the extremely loud music. The music wasn't even fitting for the atmosphere. We will NOT be back if the overhead music is like this in the future. Would consider carry out if we lived closer. Another customer couldn't miss granddaughters ball game so on top of the music we had to listen to a play by play of a ball game that had to be turned up to hear OVER the music! So much for a quiet dinner for date night. Overall, disappointing for dine in.

Our server Ben provided us with the best service I've had in a very long time. He gave the best recommendations on the menu, and it all tasted incredible. We will be back soon!

This restaurant was great today. Our server was very personable, the food was amazing as always, and our table was ready as soon as we walked in. I live 2 hours away & have definitely made the trip in the past just for the food! Highly recommend!

The best eggrolls I've ever had!!All the food was delicious and so flavorful. Staff was very friendly as well. Our wait time for the bill was a little long but our waitress was apologetic about it. We will definitely be back!

We arrived without reservations on a Saturday night, First thing they asked us was if we had reservations and based on how many people were inside I recommend it. I tried the cocktail drink flight. They were all very good. I can't remember the name of the dish but it came with 2 different style meats beef and chicken, it was really salt though.

Hong Kong Chicken | 3 Large Chicken Breasts. Serves 3-4 people. Their most famous dish with over 1 million orders sold. Extra tender breasts of white meat chicken hand-dipped in their homemade batter, topped with their Hong Kong sauce & garnished with green onions. Served crispy over a bed of bok choy, mushrooms, & water chestnuts. It all started with a woman & her dream. Mother, Grandmother & PG Founder Connie Moy. This family restaurant began in the humble beginnings of a small village in China. Their Founder, Connie Moy, as a young girl, learned her family's recipes from her mother & each day as a child, completed her responsibilities of daily food gathering & meal preparation. It was always Connie’s dream to one day find a place to make her mark on the world & open her own restaurant. Upon coming to America, Connie’s dream began to take shape as she slowly worked her way up in various relative’s restaurants & began waiting for her opportunity to one day strike out on her own. That day finally came in 1965 on a fateful trip to the great city of McHenry. On a rare day off of work, Connie had promised her children a day of exploring & fun. So with her children gripping her tightly, they boarded a train & set out for adventure. When asked years later about why she chose McHenry to visit that day, Connie simply & surely replied “finger on map, hope in heart” That day, Connie would come across the building that would become Plum Garden Restaurant. Connie strived & sacrificed her whole life to put down roots in a community she simply wanted to serve. Their Grandmother’s incredible legacy lives on in her children & grandchildren. Her son Perry, took over the family business in 1972 & created their most famous dish, Hong Kong Chicken. From that moment on, Perry began to transform Plum Garden from a small take out only place to a Fine Dining Full Service Restaurant that would begin to be recognized as a leader in Chinese cuisine & more importantly, an active member of the McHenry County community. At the end of 2013, under the direction of Perry’s oldest son Jason (Connie’s Grandson), Plum Garden expanded their operations by doubling in size to create the current layout today. Jason officially took over the business in 2018 & has focused on growing Plum Garden’s digital presence by ushering in online ordering, delivery & new menu additions such as their homemade Crab Rangoon recipe, their Bacon Mac N’ Cheese Egg Roll, their Mandarin Pork Egg Roll & many others. They are proud to be the oldest single family owned restaurant in McHenry County spanning three generations of the Moy Family. They have served our community since 1965 & they still honor their grandmother’s legacy with commitment to only the freshest & finest ingredients.

Very over priced for such a small portion. There were only 4 pieces of chicken in the sweet & sour chicken while I paid $14. The egg drop soup was also very salty with no flavor, and missing the "egg" in egg drop soup. Not impressed.

Benjamin graciously offered assistance, answering our questions, and providing great service. We enjoyed our selections. Background music could have been softer. We'll be back.

Our server was amazing!! He did a really great job. We've been to plum garden many times and the food never disappoints!! This is a high quality Chinese food restaurant that we will continue to drive 45 minutes to. The Hong Kong chicken is our favorite dish but we also really like the sesame chicken too.

Super crowded since it was Chinese New Year and a small vestibule. Made reservations on Thursday for Saturday but was not in the “old school “ reservation book. Even with all that they were still amazing. Only waited 10 mins for them to find a table, they never made you feel rushed, food was excellent. Our server Ben was friendly, attentive and genuinely appeared to want us to have a great experience. We had a been here a few times and loved it but how they handle things when situations are not optimal shows you want kind of business they really are. GREAT FOOD GREAT EXPERIENCE
