We have a blast every time we come to the VFW. The renovation, guests and staff make it the perfect ‘where everybody knows your name’ place to be. I can’t say enough about our favorite bartender, Kelly! She is such a sweetheart and remembers our favorite ‘beverage’ even after months of our last visit.
McHenry is so blessed to have this special place to have your favorite cocktail and GREAT food.

BEWARE….STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLE PLACE!! They have zero health standards….members helping with meal events pick up food with their dirty, bare hands, tables are disgustingly dirty, chef wears no gloves, mask, or hair covering.
Don’t ever join here, especially the auxiliary. They are only interested in your money and how much they can get you to volunteer. People are all rude and mean.

I went to here last night and got their special. It was special all right. It was special enough to give you explosive vomiting, and diarrhea. I hope the health revisited this establishment because of the attitude I got on the phone they don’t care

Fish small portion $13 for 2 pieces and $16 for 4 pieces. You did a choice of side and potato. . Potato pancakes over done. After the Fox provides better food and portions. . Please get a better cook, I like the place. Home like feeling. Sad! I tried to like it!

I really wanted to recommend this post but a rude bartender ruined that! This post has a bartender behind the bar that should not be working in customer service. Anytime it’s busy she is completely, flat out rude to the customers. Ignores customers and it’s so obvious that she’s doing this.
I don’t understand how you could keep someone like that employed. I’ve seen it several times at this establishment and I find it absolutely appalling!!!
I will tell everybody and anybody I know not to support this VFW post until she is gone!!!

I never expected to be so disappointed in a visit to the VFW. It's unfortunate that one person can ruin the whole experience. From the moment we walked in the door, hostess Deb set the vibe for the entire night. She immediately made us feel as if we were not welcome. I have family working in the kitchen and it was set up that my granddaughter was going to sell school chocolates at the door. I had more family coming in and out to support her and we asked for a 4 top so they could sit to eat. Deb gave the first ones a 6 top and didn't stop complaining about them for the 3 hours we were there. She complained the table was supposed to be reserved (but she sat them there). She complained there was only 2 at that moment, even though 5 more showed up. She complained they weren't ordering food fast enough, but the table earned $200 in the end. As far as the chocolate selling went, Deb had a bad attitude about the whole situation and didn't want to even help with getting a table. My family member had to come out of the kitchen to grab a table. Then she finally went to turn heaters on but didn't bother with a light even after someone else said something. A volunteer came a bit later to turn a light on for us. Her bad attitude came in to play even trying to pay the check. Every one else was and has always been so nice and accommodating but I was literally embarrassed for the experience my family had dealing with her. IF I ever go in there again and see her I will literally walk out and go somewhere else. Whatever problems she has shouldn't be brought into work with her.

We had the most amazing experience here! We had a last minute change of plans and I called Debbie and she worked her magic and she got us in to the VFW. Not only did she help us in that end she helped us prepare and helped us in any way possible. She was absolutely amazing and I highly recommend working with her! I will be doing future events here! Thank you Debbie for being our angel! On top of all this the food was absolutely amazing and all of the guests raved about it! I do not have enough amazing things to say about this place! Thank you for everything! ❤️

My mom had my baby shower at the VFW this past weekend and everything from the food to the service and overall atmosphere was amazing! We were in the Cedar Room, which was very clean and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and not be super congested. I would definitely recommend the VFW for any events!
