I have been to the new Black Bear a few times since they opened, wasn’t really impressed. Waiting 40+ minutes for pancakes and eggs. Now rough start I know, but saying that in the last month it’s like night and day, attentive servers shoutout to Jodi on my most recent visit for being absolutely fantastic and taking great care of me never had to ask for refills, my food came out within 15 minutes and tasted AMAZING. I judged Black Bear too harshly and I’m glad to be proven wrong. Will miss R-Place, but at there’s at least one great breakfast place still in Morris.

The prices are good for the food you get, but my family of 4 was there for over an hour and a half on an incredibly slow day. The order was put in wrong and it took about 45 minutes to get the rest of the food we ordered. The waitress was very nice and apologetic, but it still took a lot longer than it should have. There was also some false advertising on the menu, as they don’t have fresh fruit, it’s fruit syrup. The environment is nice, but the service is incredibly slow.

Ordered the pot roast dinner and meatloaf dinner. The description on the menu stated that the potroast came with potatoes, carrots, and two sides. The waiter INSISTED it came with mashed potatoes, but the mashed counted as one of the sides. I gave up arguing about it and ordered mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables for the two sides. The meal came with small potatoes AND the mashed potato side. Waiter shrugged it off, stating he didn’t know it came with small potatoes, even though I had pointed it out to him that it said that on the menu. I ordered mixed vegetables, but what was served was green beans with bits of rubbery undercooked bacon. The waiter said they were out of mixed vegetables, so they substituted. I don’t know if it was his decision, or the cook’s, to substitute, but he didn’t ASK which other side I might have preferred. What if I had a food allergy??? It so happens I do, but not beans, so I didn’t send them back. Both meals were COLD. Had to flag down the waiter to take it back to microwave it. Food brought a second time—STILL COLD. Sent it back AGAIN. The potroast and mashed potatoes were ok, the meat was tender. I don’t like beans with bacon that is undercooked. My companion said the meatloaf was just meh, and nothing to write home about. The service was . . . strange. I never had wait staff, or kitchen staff, choose my food for me before. The waiter was acting very rushed, though the place did not seem very busy, had many open tables. Prices were kind of high. This chain bought out the R-Place restaurant and completely remodeled with a tacky cabin and black bear decor that reminded me of tourist traps in TN, and seems out of place in IL, which has no bears. I missed looking at all the cool and colorful antiques that used to decorate the walls of R-Place and the nice salad bar they had. We won’t be going back.

Our first time there this morning. Love what they've done to the place. I got their breakfast sandwich. Sourdough bread, ham, bacon, 2 types of cheese, and egg. BEST breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Their hashbrowns were very good too! We'll go back.

Stopped here for the 1st time on a Thursday night. Walking up to the entrance you can see the black bear design and it was very cute. Inside matched the outside. The restaurant was very clean and quiet. We were seated quickly. There is a dessert case when you walk in and are waiting to be seated. Everything looked so good! Your menu looks like a newspaper and I thought that was a neat touch. The cheddar bacon potato soup with a corn muffin was delicious. We also got a burger and fries which was great. The country fried steak was good as well, though I feel it could have been cooked a little longer (breading wise). The onion rings were tasty too. Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert but would love to try the bread pudding next time. The servers were friendly and quick to clean the empty tables. As well as going around and restocking the tables with condiments. The only issue was waiting for a drink refill. We definitely will stop again and give a few more things a try including the dessert.

We love Black Bears but are disappointed in our experience here. We read about huge portions but our plates were too big for the food we got. My meatloaf was 2 small slices, scoop of mashed potatoes, cup of tired broccoli and not onion straws but one chopped onion ring. This for $18?
