Delicious meal and nice atmosphere. Bartender was so nice and the Pear Martini and deviled eggs were excellent. Filet mignon with bernaise sauce and loaded baked potato was a real treat. My husband's Cajun ribeye tasted great too. Had to remind hostess about our reservation after getting there early and hanging out at the bar for quite awhile, but they then scrambled and got us seated quickly. I recommend this restaurant.

Dinner tonight was amazing!! The food was great, the drinks were tasty, but what truly impressed me was Morgan and her staff!! We were in visiting with family and had someone in a wheelchair with a bit of a situation and Morgan and her team went above and beyond to accommodate our need to find an outlet for an oxygen tank. Writing this review is as easy as saying, we’ll be back!!! THANK YOU!

Wow! This place is worth the extra price. The staff is phenomenal. We never had to ask for anything, everything was brought out in a timely manner. The drinks were refilled perfectly, she's polite and quick. She was also very knowledgeable. The service here excels and it makes this place a level above the standard affair.
The food is excellent. The serving sizes are large, even for the soup, salad, and appetizers. The ribs were literally falling off the bone. The Mexican chili con queso was a delightful mix of spinach dip and a cheese dip - I think this dip would be great with vegetables too. The Thai barbeque salmon was flaky, buttery, and cooked to perfection. The sweet and spicy Thai barbeque balanced well with the smoky grilled salmon and created a delicious experience. The broccoli it was paired with was a great palette cleanser - bright, with a lemon and Parmesan taste. The iced tea is made in house and is a real iced tea.
The ambiance here is well done. It's bright enough to eat/read, but still provides an intimate atmosphere. Everything is clean. Even though there is a bar with TVs, it doesn't feel like a bar - the TVs don't demand the attention of the room. The sound panels are integrated seamlessly into the design of the building - this building is a testament to the passion and consideration of people who truly care. I wish we had had enough room for desserts - they looked amazing.

There were 6 in our party. I thought the service was good and I enjoyed my appetizer and main course - soup and crab cakes. I especially liked the chicken soup although the pasta and pea pods should have been cut into spoon size pieces.
I was disappointed by the carrot cake, which was more like an offering from a bake sale (sheet cake with a sugary icing) not from what I assume is a competent dessert chef. Since my wife wasn't as enthusiastic about her meal, I don't think we'll go back a second time!

We ordered a steak and told them how we wanted it done and first it was overcooked and then they made it very raw. The taste was the worst. We spoke to the manager and he was very empathetic and kind and could help us and improve the situation. The waitress was the worst, she was never attentive to anything and when we were going to pay they gave us back our credit card folded in a corner. IT WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE! The waitresses are rude and idiotic. The manager was the only one who served us.

Apparently, this franchise establishment is a racist and their staff is violent. No de-escalation skills whatsoever. Terrible services

Truly wanted to like this place but after the service I received today. I am better off going to a fast food restaurant's. Our waitress asked us what we like to drink then mixed our drinks up. Regular Coke and then a Diet Coke. She admitted it and instead of getting us new drinks she had us taste them to figure out. We ordered our food but someone else brought the food to the table. No big deal maybe busy but saw her the whole time chatting with other servers. Never came back … I look around and saying excuse me but no one paid any attention. Finally she came to our table 20 minutes later after we finished our meal. I flat out said didn’t think you ever come back. She said she had to do “To Go Orders”. I stopped and asked another employee if to go orders come before dine in customers and she said “no”. The manager never came around or anything like the few that were dining in didn’t matter. Really sad actually … we were the only “brown” not working there but eating there. Felt like it was deliberately done.

J Alexander's offers an impressive ambiance with a standout bar area that sets a sophisticated tone for your dining experience. The staff are friendly and accommodating, though the management seems to be lacking in certain aspects of customer service.
The drinks are a highlight of the visit—expertly crafted and enjoyable. The deviled eggs are a nice touch, though they may be a bit too sweet for some palates.
Unfortunately, the food experience was a letdown. The prime rib was notably bland, lacking any significant seasoning or crust, and was dry. The steak, initially served rare and cold, was returned for correction but only to be reheated, resulting in a burnt exterior while the center remained cold and undercooked.
Overall, while the restaurant excels in atmosphere and drink quality, significant improvements are needed in food preparation and management to justify a return visit.

This restaurant had the best food I've had in Chicago so far. We are here in Chicago for the fourth time and went to J. Alexander's for dinner. Our waitres Olivia recommend my wife try the crab ? cakes.... so good with big pieces of crab ?. I had the salmon burger ? ?. My wife doesn't eat a lot, hence why I love taking her out to eat ?. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were honestly the best I've ever had. Their coleslaw was made to perfection. My salmon burger was very tasty and juicy... everything was excellent.. thank you, Olivia, for your service. Hope to see you again

Don’t order take out… Ordered two ahi tuna dinners for pickup on a long drive as opposed to fast food. When we got our food the only things that were warm were the broccoli and beets. The seared ahi tuna and orzo/wild rice were ice cold, as if they’d been in the fridge for hours. Not sure if they prepped and never reheated but it was a huge bummer considering it was a total of $100 for a takeout meal and we have a ways to go on our drive.
