York Tavern is a historic place where a section of the original wall is visible behind glass. The food is great, and the drinks 🍸 are poured correctly. There's a new section for more customers. The wait staff is skilled and they work hard.

Service and atmosphere was great. Food was not so great. Portabella patty was tiny and dried out. Bun to shroom ratio was way off. Little shriveled thing in a big bun. No sauce, just arugula and a bunch of tomato slices. Fried mushrooms were nicely fried. Definitely ordered the wrong entree.

Alexa Johnson is wrong. York Tavern has been serving local police for years. It is a highly respected establishment and very loved by all. She will do it a favor by not returning.

Alexa Johnson is wrong! She stated that she had been a patron there since she was a young girl, she would have seen police officers respectfully being served lunch!! And guess what, that day those men were 2 local police officers that were enjoying their DELICIOUS lunch in an AMAZING atmosphere like they & many other first responders do at the York Tavern!! Instead, Alexa Johnson chose to jump to conclusions. Thank you York Tavern for ALWAYS supporting & thanking our First Responders who put their lives on the line!

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFO: I have been a patron of York Tavern for thirty years, since I was a small child. Yesterday I walked in with my three children, five and under, during lunchtime. There were two, armed ICE officers sorted at the bar. Why in god’s name is a private establishment in Chicago serving two armed men that have been documented to use cruel and unusual force against men, woman and CHILDREN- citizens and non-citizens?? Immediately I felt like unsafe, and dirty to be in such close proximity to these men. Put a sign in your door that guns are not allowed. Protect your patrons. I immediately left and will not be returning.
I was here on Sunday with some friends. Our server Ivette (I believe is her name) made it seem like we were an inconvenience when asking for certain things. More drinks, a side of pizza sauce, just slight extra things. Now, it was not terribly busy. All of us ladies were servers and waitresses before. We know how stressful it can be and how busy it can become! However, not asking for refills, not checking in on anything with us until the ending of our meal is disappointing. we ended up having to get up out of our seats to go get more drinks. For a meatball sandwich it’s 2 meatballs but in half. We had no problem paying for the additional charge of cheese and it being on garlic bread. However for the base price without the add-ons, I feel like I should be getting more MEAT for $13.50, it’s truthfully disappointing on the price of things for the amount of actual meat that you get on the sandwich. The food was good but the service could be improved significantly.
