Best place we stayed between Chicago and Grafton, IL! We were stuck at Starved Rock lock for around 5 hours. We didn't get through until after dark (9:30-ish). I called and amazingly enough a guy named Chuck answered the phone! He said our boat was a little big for anything they had available but he could put us at their fuel dock for the night. He waited until we got there around 11pm, helped us get tied up then invited us to the bar for drinks and even opened the kitchen...
The new restaurant Waves is awesome! The owners can't be nicer. The best italian bread in the entire Illinois Valley area made fresh daily. The Italian beef is to die for. Just as good as Chicago's. The Cobb salad has real bacon. Can't stay enough about the banana pudding. Must try it. We'll definitely be back.
This is a hidden gem. Bar is open to the public. Staff is great, especially Shelly (a real pro server!) and Kristin working the bar.View is great... overlooking the Illinois River. Prices were fair. I did feel that the food from Tony's Butt Shack was a leaving a bit to be desired.I got the pulled chicken: it was so fatty and all dark meat I could barely touch it.
