Went for dinner, the location is perfect, very walkable, the building is gorgeous and the decor is tasteful. Ample beer selection and cocktail choices. Got the Mexican steak special with rice beans and pepper sauce. The steak was perfect, not too fatty, moist, perfectly grilled and seasoned. The tortillas were fresh, soft and warm. The rest of the food was disappointing, the beans and rice were cooked well but were completely flavorless. The sauce that was supposed to be made with peppers and spices was completely void of any flavor. Considering the price of the steak I’d choose something else.

Avoid this place. The food is not good. The waiter we had was not personable at all and came off extremely arrogant. I had ordered caco de pepi and it literally was inedible. It tasted as if it was cooked with spoiled ingredients. I ate 2 of the scallops , those were mediocre and I told him I didn't want the rest because it was inedible. He just took the plate and said sorry, not like oh can I get you a different option or even hey I'll take this off the bill. I went home hungry and paid almost 70$ for 2 drinks and a meal that was not edible. He took 50% off the meal which was a joke considering I didn't eat it. Then I go to use the bathroom and had issues figuring out the bathroom because it said whichever on the door signs so I had to use a gemder neutral bathroom which by the way they never clean. It was disgusting inside them. The only nice thing was the dim lighting but I should have known better when it was completely empty as we walked in. Dont visit save yourself $.

Tried this restaurant with my husband over lunch. We started off with Blueberry Watermelon Mock tail which was amazing. For food, we had focaccia and fried green jalapeños. Personally I liked focaccia over the fried green jalapeños. For main course we then had veggie sandwich with a side of kale and chicken burger with a side of mashed potatoes. The mains were delicious.
The ambiance was so trendy and hip. They have pretty huge seating area. The decor was so modern. The service was great. Our server was warm, friendly and super attentive.
There are plenty of parking spots outside.
I would recommend this place! GIVE IT A TRY!!

Sovereign | Plainfield, IL ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️◻️
Sovereign’s stated goal is to serve fresh food, a first-class craft beer program, and hand-crafted cocktails. Mission accomplished for our dining experience.
The pub burgers were large, cheesy and “sorta smashed. They were salty - maybe because of their Good Sauce. Come hungry.
The star of the table was the “Dig on Swine” -a Braised Pork Shank, Sweet Potato mash, Sautéed Kale, with a Mustard Demi. It’s easy to why this is their most popular menu item. Foxy loved this shank that was braised to perfection and the sweet potato mash alone would bring her back again.
Rounding out the visit was very good service from a very knowledgeable waiter.

Interesting setting. But the farm to fork advertising seems to be misleading. Our server knew nearly nothing about what farm to fork involved.

This is my third time at Sovereign and I want to love it, but I've decided it's just not for me. The menu is very limited and I struggle to find a choice. Tonight I tried the seafood special (tempura shrimp with Zoodles in a lemon dijon sauce) and I paid $28 for 4 shrimp. I didn't realize the zoodles would be cold and the lemon was so overpowering I couldn't eat it. My husband loved his comfort food (Wiccan chicken (breaded) with mashed potatoes), but didn't love the al dente green beans which were very crunchy. My go to here is the brussel sprout appetizer, but I ask for little to no seasoning or it's very salty. If you don't care about calories or price, try it. I can't justify the price for the selection. Alcoholic beverages are wonderful, but pricey and small. The place was packed tonight, on a Wednesday, so people must like it, but it just doesn't have anything I like or want in healthy choices for a reasonable price.
Vegetarian options: They have two salads, caesar and wedge. There is a vegetarian sandwich, vegan enchiladas, and a la carte veggie options.
Parking: Parking on the street is limited, but you can park at either end of the downtown area and walk in.

The food is always fantastic and the atmosphere is great, especially outside on the patio. The service is always friendly, but it's hit or miss on the speed, usually on the slower side. This is still one of our favorite places in DT plainfield!
