Silver Flash Breakfast House and Grill

My family normally eats breakfast at Silver Flash often. My grandfather was a regular customer for years before he passed. My husband's men's group meets here. We have had great experiences and good food. However, I was thoroughly disappointed at my breakfast today. I ordered the Caramel Apple French Toast and sent it back twice because it was cold and missing all the items. I had this dish many times and it is good. Finally I decided it was not worth it and sent it back. The waitress said she would take it off the bill but did not. I was charged for a 3 egg meal. Mind you the French toast meal only came with 2 eggs. As a compromise for the bad breakfast, I should have been charged either half or the price should have been reduced by cost of the French toast.

I have been coming to Silver Flash for many many years. My mother and I would come when it was on the corner of 147th and Kedzie (where Walgreens is now).

Pros: The new owner did a good job of fixing the place up. I love the red plates and red napkins and red seats. It gives the place a nice "pop." The food is also good, although a lil pricey. The cakes are delicious! The french fries are nasty. They don't cook all the way thru or something.

Cons: I went there one day at around 1pm on a Wednesday and sat at the bar, where I always sit. A guy told me that I had to move to a table because the bar was reserved for people buying alcoholic drinks. I was insulted and I left. There was no one sitting at the bar at the time, so it made no sense to ask me to move. And what crowd does the owner think is coming in to guzzle down alcohol at 1pm on a Wednesday? I could see if it were happy hour between the hours of 4pm and 6pm, but seriously, 1pm?? I came back a couple of weeks later and sat at the bar. The guy was not there and the wait staff told me I could sit at the bar any time, regardless of the policy. Even the wait staff rolled their eyes at that rule.
Another con, she fired the cook that had been working for Silver Flash for 30 years. However, she realized she made a huge mistake with that decision and hired him back. A few people mentioned his firing on the restaurant's FB page and the owner blocked them, which I thought was a tad immature.

Silver Flash is a breakfast and lunch place. It's not meant to be a dinner place, staying open til 8pm serving $14 alcoholic drinks with live music on the weekends. Previous owners have tried it and it does NOT work. My prediction is the owner will get rid of the music, the drinks and close at 3pm everyday, and revert back to what Silver Flash originally was meant to be. I know the owner is trying to attract a different crowd, but the bread and butter are the regulars who have come in for years and who come for breakfast or lunch. That is who the owner needs to cater too.

Otherwise, it's a nice lil joint and they play good music on the speakers.

Husband and I did carry out, the biscuits and gravy was excellent (you know it's good if you don't have to add pepper!). Husband's food was great, had leftovers because it was a big serving. The only down was that we ordered bacon but didn't get it, but overall the food was delicious

As a resident of the area, I have not been to the establishment since it has been under new ownership.
Went today, and I wish I had gone sooner!! Had the pot roast dinner to set a baseline, and it was delicious! The service was excellent as well. I will be back...SOON!

Used to frequent this restaurant quite a few years ago. Took a chance today and was surprised how excellent the restaurant is under the new ownership. Will definitely return

Had to stop by and try this place out a friend of mine posted about it.. the food was very good, the service was great and the vibe of the place and the music was wonderful. I had the catfish which was really good will be back to try more things on the menu

This restaurant is great! I love it! Good food, great service, wonderful staff. The owner, bartender and server are awesome! This is a very friendly and great place to eat. Been here twice. First for dinner. And the second time for breakfast. I have no complaints. I can't say enough about this place. If you're looking for somewhere to eat, that has great food, reasonable prices and friendly service. This is the place for you. You will not be disappointed. I know I wasn't! I will be back again and again.

Finally, a family oriented restaurant with a friendly atmosphere AND excellent food and service.I highly recommend you give this place your business if you enjoy friendly people and outstanding food.....breakfast and dinner were both great, been there twice this week, just can't say enough about this establishment!

The food was delicious first time there I highly recommend the alcohol drinks was so good too ! The service was amazing. We had amazing personable waitress Alma was fantastic me and my family went there for dinner. I can’t wait till we go for breakfast. I’m sure the food is going to be amazing as well.
