I was very impressed with the service and the food . The restaurant was very clean. The servers were very attentive. It was good for large parties. I will be back.

I love coming to Carmine's been there many times. While the food is good I wish the portions were a little smaller, had the veal parmesan , very large piece and very large price 40.00. Too much for one person, took more than half home. Please, smaller and maybe 30.00 -- that would help.

We had a reservation and arrived early. The hostess, after making us wait for 10 minutes, tried to seat us on the patio, where the temperature was 90 degrees and humid. We declined. She next offered us a table near the waitstaff station and we declined that as well. Finally she gave us a decent table, but it appeared she was struggling and it was only 4:30. The restaurant had plenty of tables available so not sure what the problem was. Things got better as we got a competent waiter and our drinks and appetizers arrived promptly. Meal cost about $200, which was higher than we expected. We will think twice before returning.

I give the food we all ordered a C+ because, although highly touted as great Italian restaurant the dishes were unremarkable, perhaps because the restaurant was so busy?

Our server, Shelly R., was outstanding and would ask for her again. We were disappointed that we weren't asked if we wanted to sit in their outdoor patio and they took the initiative of putting us there. It was very hot and uncomfortable and bugs were flying in our face from the bushes that were behind us. When we first walked in, I was holding a to go container, something that was meant for my brother to take home and the staff's first priority right after greeting us was to ask what we had in the container in case it was dessert we brought in that they would charge us their $25 fee. For such an upscale restaurant, they should be ashamed of themselves and specifically the manager that was standing up there. The food overall was very good although one person‘s veal Calabrese was way overcooked.

The good, the bad and the ugly. Let's start with the good. The food was good - everything from the sausage and peppers to the fried calamari to the veal piccata was all very tasty. The 8-finger cavatelli arrabiata was a bit bland. Also good was the size of the credit ($62) our party of four was given because of our experience. Now to the bad: I've heard of bread being provided only on request, but how about asking us if we wanted any? And then when we asked about it, we learned that we separately had to ask for olive oil or butter, which is why neither was provided. Also bad was the manager we finally flagged down when our waitress appeared to have joined the Witness Protection Program. He never apologized nor checked back with us, but, on the positive side, he must have been the one who comped our appetizers. Now, the ugly. Our waitress (whose name we didn't catch - something “ana” - Eastern European) was terrible. Yes, we were seated in what was obviously an overflow room and we were her only table there but she actively ignored us. We had to ask for water - twice. A member of our party drinks a lot of Diet Coke and had to repeatedly ask for refills. Even after we complained, we received no apology, no improvement in service, etc. It's a shame because the food was good.

We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. I had received a gift certificate for this restaurant. I will start out by saying the service was very good and our waiter was attentive. On the other hand, the food was mediocre for the price. I had veal piccata which didn't have a whole lot of flavor. It comes with a side of pasta so I asked for gluten-free because on the menu it says gluten free is available upon request. The waiter told me that the gluten free as the side is not interchangeable, it had to be the regular pasta. I thought that was pretty ridiculous since even gluten-free pasta is cheap. My husband had lasagna which he thought the sauce tasted like Chef Boyardee. The one good thing is that the waiter remembered it was my husband's birthday and brought us a candle with a few mini cannolis on the house. The other thing I didnt like was everything is a la carte. As I think about it, this is a chain restaurant and definitely did not have the family restaurant feel like other smaller Italian restaurants, which I like better. Like Rocco Vino in Norridge. Everything about that restaurant is excellent!

I've enjoyed great meals at Carmine's on Wabash, but my experience at Carmine’s in Rosemont was highly disappointing. The $54 sea bass had a mushy, puree-like texture. The server seemed disinterested in providing service, only smiling when he brought the check. I definitely would not return or recommend this restaurant.
