We came here for breakfast on a Tuesday morning, and we were pleasantly surprised. Since the weather was nice, we sat out on the patio.

Warning to non-smokers: we wouldn't have stayed if we couldn't have sat on the patio -- the inside seating and bar area smells strongly of cigarette smoke. There are ashtrays everywhere, in spite of the Clean Indoor Air ordinance and the Smoke Free Illinois Act.

We prefer quieter places, so I should mention that the music is a little loud on the patio. There was one corner where the speakers were off, so we enjoyed our time there, al fresco.

The espresso is top notch! Nice roast, shots pulled correctly (not over pulled), and my traditional macchiato was exactly right. So many places serve a latte, no matter what you order.

The Fried Beef with Scrambled Eggs was flavorful and fairly tender, for a skirt steak. 100% would have again. Lovely crispy hash browns.

My wife's Breakfast Sandwich was also perfect, made with pork prosciutto instead of turkey ham. Very tasty!

And the fresh-squeezed OJ was terrific! No bitterness, some pulp, and a bright sweet flavor.

Service was *perfect*! Friendly, helpful (knows menu and ingredients) and efficient.

Highly recommended, with those 2 caveats: smoke and music.

This is one of those places I have driven past dozen of times thinking we should give it a try. We'll tonight was the night we did.

The price per person was supposed to be $20 -30. We had one appetizer, two entrées, two carbonated beverages, and shared one dessert - $50. Per person after tax and tip.

When we arrived, we sat outside on their patio. Unfortunately, they allow smoking anywhere outside. State law is: no smoking within 15 feet of the business entrance and people were smoking at a table within 3 feet of the entrance.

We sat inside. They made a design choice with these metal chairs that have this grey twisted padding. I have a 40-inch waist and the chair was very uncomfortable. Even if had more room the back of the chair was at an uncomfortable height.

The music was popular covers. They played Rolling in the Deep but not sung by Adele. Demons but not sung by Imagine Dragons...

We ordered the grilled calamari appetizer at $20, we both agreed it was over cooked and came out chewy. Mirage has a signature burger, 'the Mirage Burger ' at $24. I asked our waiter, but he could only say the beef patty has seasoning. He suggested the Chicken Gouda at $16 and I went with that. It was excellent, they smoked gouda really came through. I really appreciated his guidance. My friend had the grilled Salmon on a creamy spinach sauce with a side of feta fries. He said these were the best feta fries he has ever had. He was not a fan of the creamy spinach. I ordered a Diet Coke (on the menu it said the bottle was $4.50). The waiter brought a 12 ounce can. Those are cruise ship prices. We ended with the meal with the Mirage Cake at $7.00. I asked for coffee but the only sugar-free sweetener they had was Equal brand and that stuff gives me headaches. I want to mention the bathrooms, I cannot speak of the ladies' facility but for a restaurant with 20 inside tables and another 30 outdoor tables one single 5ft x 5ft restroom is not enough. I have been on ships with bigger restrooms.

When we left again there were so many people smoking on the front porch I went back inside and asked the waiter if there is a non-smoking area of the option. He said there is not. Outside people can smoke where ever they want. I am not looking to return.

I do want to say other reviewers said they were charged for a glass of water. After a $4.50 can of Coke I asked for water and was not charged. I do not know if it is a change in policy but we did not experience that charge.

I arrived as they were opening. The staff was more interested in opening the restaurant than taking my order. I was the only person in the restaurant until a man who spoke to them in an eastern European language comes in and was waited on right away. It then became clear that I was not welcome there. I paid for my coffee and left. The coffee was not good and costs as much as a large specialty drink at Starbucks.

I visited this place exited because I've heard they have big patio but unfortunately I am very disgusted by the fact that the people who serve us also clean the bathroom, very unprofessional and not at all hygienic.

Extremely disappointing restaurant in every way. Service is painfully slow—both drinks and food take forever. The food itself is mediocre, often below average. The interior looks like a cheap bar with low-quality performers, not a proper restaurant. The owners are rude and unprofessional. The restrooms are filthy, likely because there’s no dedicated cleaner. The location is awful due to constant airplane noise. The staff are completely disengaged and clearly don’t care about their jobs. I give the lowest possible rating because this place simply does not deserve anything more.

What an absolutely amazing little cafe. Found it by accident while here in Chicago for a convention and I will definitely return before leaving town. Perfect breakfast! Latte A+! Everything was excellent.

I’ve been coming here for years and have always had a great experience until a couple of days ago. I ordered fresh cut fries with feta. The server brought me the fries without feta, and said she’ll bring it to me on the side. It took them 20 minutes to bring the feta and by that time the fries were cold. I told them i would like new ones and another lady (she works in the kitchen) told me she can only heat them up in the MICROWAVE… I told her that I want new fresh ones. 20 minutes later they bring me “new” fries, this time with feta but they were cold again. I went inside to let them know that they’re not fresh… and the lady in the kitchen started yelling at me saying that I am playing jokes with her and that she’s the one who now has to eat my old fries. I didn’t engage any further and on my way out her and another server started laughing. Service was absolutely terrible.
