Ma and Pa chicken shack. The best fried chicken, livers and gizzards you'll ever have. I've been going to this place for forty years and I live an hour away. Gets busy on weekends. Taco Tuesdays are a must as well. Good people tastier food.

Definitely try this place. Large portions, good food, wait staff is attentive and pleasant, and prices are more than fair for the portion sizes. I'll be returning to try other selections.

Well, Sheridan is NOT in the middle of nowhere if you live anywhere near Sheridan and anyone nearby can direct you to the Old Mill. If you can see a moving body, pull over and ask :Where's the Old Mill?" If there's no human, drive down one road, then the other (there are only two), and you'll find it. You enter a bar and grill of 1955 or thereabouts, get a half a fried chicken, fries, slaw, a roll of paper towels, Tabasco and get to work. Not being able to finish the chicken, take half home for breakfast the next morning. Most common accompanying beverage is beer, I prefer gin. Locals acknowledge each each with a nod. Newcomers get a big smile from the waitress who is right out of Central Casting.

My late mother discovered Old Mill Tavern in Sheridan several years ago. Located at 4194 East 2603rd Road, off North Robinson Road, south of North 42nd Road, south of Sandwich and my mother's home on Lake Holiday near Somonauk, close by the scenic Fox River, it was been a popular country restaurant since 1971, a change of pace from the steak 'n potatoes crowd. Instead, Old Mill Tavern offers a classic bar menu at prices you can't believe. And when was the last time you had a liver or gizzard dinner? Open from 5 to 8:30 Tuesday and Wednesday, 4:30 to 9:30 Friday and Saturday and 4 to 9:30 on Sunday, it also offers Steak Fry on Tuesday and Taco Night on Wednesday. You gotta love a place that puts fun and food in the same sentence. On our latest visit, my wife and I started with shrimp with fries, mini tacos and a toss salad with Italian chicken and ranch dressing. For an entree, my wife had a quarter-pound of fried light meat chicken with coleslaw. I couldn't resist a plate filled with jumbo fried shrimp and coleslaw. From Morris to Yorkville to Ottawa, Old Mill Tavern has been a go-to dining destination for 51 years. It's easy to see why.

Having customers standing at bar while we are eating at a hightop table is annoying. Find a seat!
