Cracker Barrel: Where Orders Go to Die (and Biscuits Taste Like Sadness)

We bravely ventured into Cracker Barrel on March 28th, arriving at the ripe hour of 12:15 PM. After a leisurely 20-minute wait, we were finally seated and placed our breakfast orders by 12:45 PM. Then, the real adventure began.

At 1:25 PM, our stomachs were rumbling louder than a freight train, and our coffee cup was as empty as a politician's promise. A kitchen staff member emerged, bearing the grim news: our order had vanished into the abyss of the kitchen. Our server, bless her heart, seemed to be operating on a different time zone, offering only the occasional "I got you" while neglecting basic server duties like refills and (later) plate clearing. We finally escaped at 1:47 PM, feeling like we'd aged a decade.

The food, when it finally arrived, was a comedy of errors. My biscuits tasted like they’d been baked with pure, unadulterated flour, and the gravy joined the flour party. The hash browns were bathing in grease, like tiny potato rafts lost at sea. The eggs were perfect, and the bacon was doing its best to salvage the situation.

Honestly, Bob Evans would have thrown us a breakfast parade compared to this. Our server might have been new (no stars), or perhaps she was just having an off day. Either way, this Cracker Barrel trip was a masterclass in disappointment.

Usually, we're fans, but this visit was a certified "nope."

While the server was taking our initial order, her tray was leaking water onto my foot. I shifted so it would stop. The server shifted again again it continued to drop on my other foot. 😡 I moved back so it wouldn’t happen further.
When the server was pouring our coffee, she dripped all over the table. It took her 10 minutes to bring us napkins to clean up her mess.

It took 1 hour 9 minutes to get our food. At 55 minutes I got up from my seat and notified a few servers, one of which rolled his eyes. Fortunately someone else heard the exchange he came to our table and said our order was misplaced in the kitchen, he would get right on it. At NO time did our server check on us, refill our coffee or let us know our meal was coming up. We played two complete card games during that time.

Then, at 1 hour 27 minutes, a manager came out and apologized. We were not given a discount on our food. Our server came up at 1 hour 36 minutes to refill our coffee.

At 2 hrs 4 minutes, we left and will most likely not go to that Cracker Barrel again.

I love that they are usually close to a hey so if you are on a trip easy to get into and out without driving a long time. I love too that the food consistently on same level no matter what state you visit . Like their fair prices. Enjoy the atmosphere and seeing the fire in fireplace. Nice having a store to shop in if you have to wait.

We most often eat breakfast here and the food is always delicious! Our latest visit was busier than usual but our service was just as good as it always is and we didn't wait any longer than usual to get our food, either. The whole family loves it here and it's nice to have a place the kids will eat everything without complaint.

Our server Maria was very good. The food took 45 min to come out and our eggs were cold. Maria got it corrected quickly. They just couldn’t recover from the dinner crowd. Maria kept her composure and did a great job.

Service was friendly, but very, very slow. No drinks were given until after the entrées were served. 30 minutes after ordering the pot pie, We were informed that they were out of pot pie.
