We’ve been languishing, unable to find a Chinese restaurant that checks our boxes since we moved out this way - then along comes Tong’sTiki Hut. Not only did it check all of the boxes that we have on our list, but it also reached way in and checked boxes that have been empty since China Garden in Lake Charles LA closed in the 90s. It’s the Chinese-American-Polenisian cuisine of our childhoods and I honestly could’ve cried I was so happy. Perfection has been attained. Stop looking. Looking for a sit down, lovely restaurant (with take out options of course?) ✔️
Want other guests who had grown up here to recommending dishes?✔️
Do you like an origin story that includes waitresses pooling their money to buy the restaurant from a retiring owner way back when and who run it today?✔️
Do you want your iced tea in a tiki glass??✔️
Chinese zodiac placemats? ✔️
Cocktails? ✔️
WATER FEATURE???? ✔️
We started with tea and a Scorpion and crab Rangoon. Also got the meatless fried wonton knowing I’d be getting egg drop soup (which I did and it was delicious.) At this point we realized how big the portions were and decided to share the sizzling shrimp with golden rice.
Perfection from start to finish. Recommend EVERYTHING. We brought home leftovers and a whole new order of soup and will eat like kings for the rest of our days. GO HERE. Next time we’re after the egg foo young, Singapore rice noodles, hot and sour soup, Mongolian beef - pretty much the rest of the menu. It’s worth the drive from Chicago. It’s also worth the drive from Iowa (agreeing with the woman in the booth next to us.)

I used to love Tongs and would go there as a kid. Recently ordered and the food quality was terrible. You can tell they don’t clean their deep fryer. Crab Rangoon, sweet & sour chicken, and cashew chicken were inedible. Spent $60 just to feed my garbage can.

Food was great..Started with the Bo-Bo Tray.
The host was nice and prompt.
We were a bit ignored at the start of our night from the waitresses, but the gentleman that was there, approached us and welcomed us with tea after a while. They could use more staff. Overall the food was great. The fried rice and the rest of the food was prompt and fresh. The menu did have sushi, but it wasnt available. The food really made up for the mediocre service. The atmosphere music was very relaxing for a saturday night and the decor was what you expect.

This is by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had. I tried it twice and nothing was edible.

I've gone to Tongs for years and was so disappointed today I will probably never go back. I moved about 20 miles away and was in the area, so i thought it would be such a treat! They changed their Mongolian beef. It's fine that you charge $17 for it but don't make it 80% onions. There was such a small amount of beef it was so disappointing. There were barely any of the rice noodles. The sauce has also changed. Also, 2 of the 4 fortune cookies had no fortune!

The bland food is very different from the tasty food I have been enjoying from this place almost my entire life. Very disappointed especially in the Mongolian beef. To top it off there was not even a fortune in the cookie. Zai Jian Tongs.

We have been going to this restaurant for many many years and have seen many changes over that time. But the last time we were there, the dining experience was not one of our best! I’m not sure, but I think it’s gone to another owner once again and they have a different cook and recipes. Everything had a complete different taste than in the past! Very disappointing.

Well, I like the new look of the restaurant our food was mediocre to say the least! I’m now going to have to try and find another restaurant which is very disappointing. As in the past we always loved going there!

Misleading ordered orange chick didn’t get rice, even put a detailed note in my order didn’t get a call to even hear it doesn’t come with rice, talked to grub hub they said it doesn’t come with rice but I see it right there.

Bad practices I’m a small business owner too and I would have made it clear, if you fix the menu I’ll remove this review.

You are getting quantity AND quality. So much food for so little money. The vibe is unlike any other Chinese place I’ve been to. Super chill and relaxing. And finally the staff is incredibly kind and on point. Can’t complain about anything.

Under Staff place with a concerning ambiance. We were welcomed to the establishment with gambling machines. The food was awful, service was mediocre and overpriced. Not recommended!
