Great food and very friendly people. a hidden gem

I stopped into Volo for some business on Wednesday and asked the attendant at BP for a good food suggestion. He sent me to Volo Quality Meats and he was right!

I had their daily special, a freshly made plate of chicken marsala. The portion was perfect and the taste was exquisite. I didn’t know what to expect but was floored.

There’s no servers; you order and grab your own food from the counter. It’s not fancy but it works. You can also order items to go, sorta like going to a butcher for meats.

The staff is helpful if you have questions. The chef was very accessible. There was pride in their work.

I will return next time I’m in the neighborhood.

During my visit to pick up an order, I was met with an unpleasant experience. An older lady staff member snapped at me upon arrival, and while browsing the shop, This behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the business.

A more positive, welcoming culture should be encouraged, as it is disheartening to see such negativity. I also feel sorry for the employees who have to work in an environment with staff members who act this way.

Went to check it out and couldn't be happier with the variety of authentic Italian food. We bought a few dishes to bring home, not so sure they will not be eaten before dinner. Great place and highly recommend. You have to go and check it out.

We’ve been hearing about this place and just kept forgetting to try it. Until today!!
It’s a great restaurant for you to sit down and eat at. But it’s also a butcher shop. But it’s also a deli. It’s everything you want without any of what you don’t! Where else can you go to just ogle at phenomenal premium cuts/chops/ roasts/ whole chicken/in-store made deli meats/ fresh/ frozen/heat n serve/italian dishes/ I could go on and on. While my wife ate her burger and I ate my slice we were just absorbed in reading over the overhead menus and deciding what we need to try next time. I said before ‘none of what you don’t want’ and by that I meant less than perfect service. We were greeted by Ben the manager who took so much time to walk us through their offerings and educate us based on our preferences. I haven’t seen service like this since pre-COVID! Everyone (every single employee!) was just so pleasant. I used to be in a related business and I can remember when this level of service was the norm and it is so refreshing to see that it hasn’t completely died off. You can find some of what they offer at other places sometimes. But you can’t find all of what they excel at, all in one place and be treated like you are their most important customer. Just try it and see if you don’t agree.

I purchased two 50 day dry aged 1lb ribeyes. I grilled them with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
Seared over direct heat on a 500° grill using lump coal for 2 min on all 4 sides and then finished over indirect to 125° internal temperature (about 5 min).and removed from grill.
Rested for 10 min with a final internal temperature of 139°.
Finished it off with your pesto compound butter. It was honestly the best steak, I, my wife and daughter ever had!
The staff was super courteous, friendly and knowledgeable.

Since we were in the area and after reading reviews from other Yelpers,we decided to stop in on a Saturday for a late lunch.

There is parking in the front and back of their building. The inside has table seating plus a butcher shop selling fresh cut meats, cheeses, sausages and cold cuts.

The layout is somewhat confusing as to where you order and pay..basically if someone is behind one of the registers, that is who you go to.

We ordered one of their gourmet sandwiches ..The Northside Johnny . It was very good but I would have liked less chimichirri and more porchetta. Sandwiches are a little pricey as you do not get chips or a small side salad. My wife had their Italian Potato Salad which was very good. They don't have many food options if you want Gluten Free.

They bring the food to your table and the wait time was not too long which gave us time to browse.

They offer Daily Specials as well as salads, soups burgers and desserts.

There was a constant stream of customers supporting this local establishment which is always good to see.

We ended up buying a few packages of their homemade sausages and snack stix.

I feel if the staff would have been a bit more helpful in explaining their ordering system and their menu and daily specials were all listed in one area, this would be a 5 star sandwich shop.

Really great place to eat. They have phenomenal sandwiches. I highly recommend the Northside Johnny. I will continue to come back. They also have a butcher, frozen meats and veggies, and snacks, with pasta options on the side.

I really appreciated the atmosphere, the order, and the cleanliness. The products are excellent, and the cured meats produced and sold on site reflect the aromas and flavors of Italy. It was a pleasure to visit this place and meet Agostino. His products embody his love for the raw materials and his desire to produce and share truly excellent products. Congratulations to him and his family for this great family business. We will definitely be back!

This deli is truly a gem! The food is always delicious, but my absolute favorites are the cookies, smash burger, seasoned fries, pizza, and especially the porchetta — everything is full of flavor and made perfectly every time, chef Mario is THE BEST! Rae Ann’s charcuterie boards are not only beautiful but also absolutely delicious, making them perfect for any occasion. On top of the great food, the customer service is just as impressive. Karina at the register is always so kind and welcoming, and she even remembers my order. She goes the extra mile by bringing me the extra mayo I like without me even having to ask! It’s rare to find that kind of genuine, thoughtful service these days. The kitchen staff also deserves a big shoutout for the consistency and care they put into every dish. Ben, the manager, is always helpful and makes sure guests are well taken care of. This deli has become one of my favorite places to eat, and I can’t recommend it enough.
