Visited on the next to last day of the season, so they won't reopen until mid-April. Cute little place with friendly owners serving great ice cream, sandwiches, and drinks. The butter pecan was great (I was told it's made by a couple guys from WI). Very local vibe, right at Waukegan harbor. Most of the seating is outside with umbrellas. Public toilets are down the street. A park with picnic tables is across the street and the view is of boats and Lake Michigan. Parking off season is easy. The inside is very small and they didn't have coffee, but again this was the end of the season.

Delicious ice cream! Exactly what we needed after a long day at a Navy boot camp graduation. The set-up is a bit confusing, as there are two little houses with ice cream signs on them. We weren’t exactly sure where to go, but luckily, someone who I can only assume was the owner, was sitting outside and pointed us in the right direction. It’s definitely situated in an interesting location and can be hard to miss, but I would happily recommend this place to anyone! A true hidden gem in Waukegan.

This place has the best fresh chorros & all kinds of ice cream. Beautiful place by the water and the owners are super sweet.

This place ROCKS. I was traveling through on my way home, stopped by the deli before my train left for dinner to go. First, the cashier-sweetest lady-makes my sandwich in record time. I had no anxiety getting back to the platform in time. Second, this sandwich was $10 and LOADED. I was hungry, but just one half was enough, completely worth my money I was so glad. Third, this sandwich was DELICIOUS. I got all the works, and the ratios were perfect. The tastiest meal. Sandwich maker assured me she made the best sandwich and she told no lie. Absolutely coming back next time I’m around.
Also the place did fill up a bit while I was there, and all customers were handled expertly by the two staff there.

I have going to Dockside Deli and Dockside Ice Cream for years, the former business owner was a great guy and the new owner of the past few years has continued offering exceptional customer service. In fact, Letty takes customer service very seriously and she knows and cares for her customers. She knows her customer’s favorite sandwiches or flavors of ice cream. There are times when there are lines at both locations and the owner is trying to cover both facilities making sure sandwiches are being made fresh and the amazing ice cream is being served. Yesterday I saw a couple impatient people walk off unwilling to let her get back from across the street serving a family ice cream. I’m just hoping people are able to show some empathy with her since her summer staff having gone back to school.

Dockside has lemon Italian ice which was perfect after a day on Waukegan beach:)🏖️

Overall the ice cream is a bit overpriced $7.47 for a one scoop of ice cream which is a bit overpriced I think they’re just trying to make too much profit the weight is extremely long and their selection is limited one of the lady said they’re not making banana splits which is crazy cause it’s on the menu they should definitely tell people ahead of time. Honestly I feel like I would run the place better better staffed lower prices and the manager was a bit rude after reading some of the comments I could see what people are coming from I feel like what they need is somebody else selling ice cream on the dock to create some friendly competition and not a monopoly in downtown Waukegan

Wanted to get delicious ice cream on a hot day while seeing a giant duck. Instead got yelled at for holding the door open because of the line and the owner slammed the door on my friend. You just had to ask nicely and we would have moved. No need to be so nasty. Never going here again and I’m going to let everyone know about your personality.

I honestly believe the BLT at Dockside is the best BLT in the world! The bacon is nearly paper thin but not dry. It’s translucent and delicious! I ordered my sandwich with extra light mayo. And have been having it outside on hot days. My biggest surprise was it is refreshing too! Pictures attached for your salivating.

And it’s nice to have Lake Michigan just at your view in front while you eat. The service is exactly what you need when eating dockside. No rush, no QR codes to order at the table. Just old school order in person and calmly wait for your sandwich to be freshly made. Just relax and enjoy the beach.

It is a happy time here.

Wonderful place and delicious ice cream. Lots of choices and reasonably priced. The lady who helped us was so kind to let our kids try a flavor before they selected.

Little confusing on which one to go to. There are 2 ice cream shops across from the street from another BUT they are both the same! Great ice cream, great views. Nice way to to cool off!

Haven't tried their regular food yet, but their ice cream is out of this world. The lady that works there was super friendly too. 🍨🥰

Great location on the harbor. Big shady park across the road. Two buildings, the walk up or across the street an indoor shop/ deli. Outdoor seating. Many unique flavors to choose from. All that and friendly staff.
