This place used to be good!! We order 2 Sundays with strawberry sauce it was literally water sauce nasty shit no ice cream just water mix with strawberries sauce. im so mad at my self for paying $18.31 for 2 medium Sundays š¤ I will never never spend money there again. This place is nasty. I was really hoping it would get better yall need to stop spending money here not worth it anymore.
Great service
Not sure what happened to this place. Used to be great. The past 3 times Iāve been here have been bad. Today I ordered a Chicago Dog and Gyro. They forgot half the ingredients on the dog and burnt the gyro and used crumby meat instead of the full gyro meat they used to use. The pic shows how tiny the portion was and I removed the more burnt food. Last time they charged me for cheese fries but noticed they werenāt in the bag when I got home.
First time here. We used to go to the other location when my wife lived in Waukegan. Anyway the young girl that waited on us was very polite and had great customer service skills. She is definitely an asset to your company
Restaurants like these are usually known for having great classics like chili cheese dogs and chili cheese fries. But there was no chili, just ground beef with cheese on top. The chili + cheese flavor palette is an iconic staple, but the meal I got from here was just sad. The hotdogs are low quality - they felt really rubbery and tough to chew, it felt as though my food was fake and I started to feel really disgusted by it. Detroit's Coney Islands should be the ideal model if they're looking for quality because this wasn't it.
The strawberry short cake has been changed to a hard crusty old piece of bread.
Shirlās is an institution. One hot day building roads, my boss said, āGo get everyone milkshakes!ā One guy wanted a root beer milkshake. I told they wouldnāt have that. He told me how to make one. I had to tell them how to do it. He said it was fabulous.
My family feels it is a special treat to stop there for ice cream.
Itās closed shop already.
I love Shirls and like many of us Waukeganites, Iāve been coming to Shirls since I was young. I donāt know if itās the new staff, a lack of training or they just donāt care about their customer service anymore.
I stopped by on Saturday between 8-8:30 and there was no line inside nor in drive thru, but the red hair girl who took my order was super unprofessional. She told me to give her a minute, made me wait at least 5, which I didnāt really mind, but I heard her cursing and yelling over the speaker and when I pulled up to the window she had the WORST attitude, like if I was the one who made her mad. She was slamming the drive thru window, like she was mad she was at work or like if someone made her mad. She didnāt even smile or give me my total just put her hand out for payment. By the time I got my order, there was one customer inside and she slammed the window on last time and once again I heard her yell.
I get it no one wants to be at work on a Saturday night, but at least have some sort of manners. Iām all for giving the younger kids a chance and a job to make some money, but good customer service is not that hard.

After a decade went back this past Thursday, ordered 2 shakes and cheeses fries.. these cholas gave me the smallest container of cheese for an order of 1/2 LB of cheese fries. Please train them. Maybe better training or hiring practices. Idk.

It's VERY Expensive, especially for a family ice cream spot, but I LOVE REAL ice cream and the option of ANY and EVERY flavor you could imagine, whether they have to mix and match or made from menu!!

Kind of a must stop when in the area. Not overly fond of the service, but the product is generally good at times.
