we ordered miso soup, house salad, shrimp tempura, and a chicken teriyaki single. All of the food was delicious. The Chicken teriyaki was a little dry for my taste but thats because i love fries with my ketchup like i like chicken with my teriyaki sauce! so this comment is not meant to be a negative comment. It’s more meant to be descriptive. The shrimp tempura’s breading is more corse than other places but again definitely not a negative. just describing. My favorite part though is what is shown in the picture! THANK YOU for the note! I loved it!!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🤯
What an incredible find! Wajo Sushi in Wheeling has officially become one of my favorite Japanese sushi restaurants in the northwest suburbs. You can taste the difference in every bite and this is not your average sushi spot. The fish is unbelievably fresh, the presentation is beautiful, and the attention to detail makes it feel like a true Tokyo-style sushi bar.
The biggest surprise? They serve real crab meat! The soft-shell crab hand roll was also outstanding! Light, crisp, and packed with flavor.
Every piece of sushi here has that perfect balance of freshness, texture, and artistry. Whether you’re ordering sashimi, nigiri, or one of their creative signature rolls, you’re in for something special.
If you love authentic sushi in Wheeling or you’re just craving real sushi, make the trip. Wajo Sushi delivers quality, care, and flavor in a way that’s hard to find these days.

As a longtime sushi enthusiast, I can confidently say Wajo Sushi in Wheeling is a hidden gem that deserves way more attention. I’ve driven by this place countless times, and I’m so glad I finally stopped in. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt welcoming, intimate, clean, and authentically Japanese without feeling pretentious.
The sushi quality is exceptional!! Fresh, beautifully presented, and crafted with precision. I was thrilled to see they use REAL CRAB MEAT instead of imitation crab in some of their rolls, something that’s almost impossible to find these days. Their Soft Shell Crab Jumbo Roll was absolutely divine with the tempura texture was perfectly crisp while the inside remained tender and flavorful. You can tell the chef takes true pride in balancing texture, flavor, and presentation.
I also tried their salmon sashimi, which practically melted in my mouth, and the tuna nigiri, which had that clean, ocean-fresh taste you only get from top-grade fish. The rice-to-fish ratio was spot on.
If you’re searching for authentic Japanese sushi near Wheeling, Buffalo Grove, or Northbrook, this is the place. Whether you’re a sushi purist who loves omakase-style dining or someone exploring new rolls, Wajo delivers excellence in every bite. This will absolutely become my new go-to for fresh, authentic sushi in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

I usually order takeout ever since lockdown days. Food and takeout presentation is always consistently great quality. This was my first time dining in, and I was pleasantly surprised at how even fancier the presentation of the food is, compared to the casual aura of the dining area. Overall, good bang for your buck, and one of the better sushi options in the area.

When it comes to sushi, I am super picky (had a bad experience once...never again lol) I just ordered from Wajo and the salmon avocado roll was perfect. It was so fresh, I should’ve ordered two 🤦🏽♀️. It’s been a few years since I last ordered, but I feel the quality has really improved. This might just be my new go-to spot.

I tried a wide spread of appetizers and sushi rolls recently at Wajo Sushi. Everything was delicious and the service was top notch.
Appetizer - I would highly recommend the Cream cheese wontons and the Jalapeno bombs.
Rolls - I would recommend the Julia roll and the Cheese crunch special. The salmon that is charred on the Julia roll gives it a nice smoky taste that is very unique. The cheese crunch contains a mango that surprising works really well with the cheese texture.

Had lunch with some friends at Wajo Sushi before a road trip and we started off strong with the crab rangoon which came with a sweet and spicy gochujangy sauce and my favorite: the crispy jalapeno bomb.
Then the rolls came out presented beautifully and blew our minds. The Julia roll had smoky seared salmon topped with crab and was my favorite. We also ordered the cheese crunch which was intriguingly topped with cheeto dust and irresistable. The salmon, eel, and all the fish tasted fresh and delicious and the service from the owners themselves was delightful as well. Can't wait to come back when I have the chance!
