I have visited many times over the years and the food is always excellent. You can expect higher prices there, but this isn't Denny's. It is fine dining at its best. A small town like Chesterton is lucky to have a restaurant of this quality. It is a perfect place to go for a special occasion or just bc you deserve something out of the ordinary.
Our first visit and the four of us were pleasantly surprised by the food and service.
First, the service was exceptional. We were greeted promptly and professionally and the level of service never let up throughout our meal. We were offered fresh grated Parmesan and pepper at ever turn. Our water glasses were never empty.
I had the minestrone to start. The soup had a rich deep tomato base and though it wasn’t loaded with vegetables every spoonful was delicious. Next up for me were the crab cakes ( appetizer ) served with a lemon caper aioli. They were perfectly seared and again; delicious. The Vouvray by the glass was a perfect foil for my dinner. My friend had the spaghetti with veal meatballs. The proof of a good meal is his remark that he would come back tomorrow night for the same meal.
We sat outside and the atmosphere was delightful. Most highly recommend.

I really enjoyed the outdoor dining spot, and the food was delicious. I appreciated the help of a Spanish-speaking waiter who assisted us with a few things we didn’t understand and easily resolved a misunderstanding.

Too small of a restaurant for the number of diners they cram in. Very loud. Never room at the bar to enjoy a cocktail before dinner. The meals are very expensive, nothing special, and they do not include soup or salad. Small baguette complementary; extra costs $5. A spinach and apple salad with no protein is $14. Compare their prices with Pestos, in Valparaiso, for example. Chicken Marsala at Lucrecia is $32; Pestos $21. Chicken Parm $34 vs. $20. Similarly overpriced compared to other Italian restaurants in Northwest Indiana. This is Chesterton, not downtown Chicago.

The Sampler was amazing. Everyone needs to try this place!
Edit: my wife and I were on a road trip and went out of our way on the route home, specifically to eat here again.
Yes... It's that good.
And yes, I ordered the Sampler Trip again. ?

Lucrezia Café in downtown Chesterton offered a delightful dining experience that stood out with its charming al fresco patio, attentive service, and delicious cuisine. Opting to dine outside, we were pleasantly surprised by the comfortable setting, despite the general heat. The patio area was well shaded and made for a perfect spot to enjoy a meal outdoors.
The service at Lucrezia Café was nothing short of spectacular. The staff's efficiency and attentiveness ensured that our dining experience was seamless. We were particularly impressed with how our needs were anticipated and met promptly, often before we even realized what we needed next. This level of service greatly enhanced our overall experience.
The culinary offerings at Lucrezia Café were mostly impressive. The complimentary baguette served with their signature olive oil was a delightful start to our meal, setting a high standard for what was to come. The pouchette entrée was an absolute hit, perfectly executed and deliciously satisfying. Similarly, the penne casserole ala bolognaise was a comforting dish that was prepared exceptionally well, embodying the warmth and richness one would hope for in such a meal.
However, there was a slight hiccup with the duck confit polenta appetizer special. While the concept was intriguing, the dish itself wasn’t as well balanced as the rest of the meal, suggesting a bit of refinement could elevate it to the level of the other dishes.
Despite this minor critique, the overall dining experience at Lucrezia Café was certainly great. With some culinary refinements, the restaurant has the potential to match the culinary excellence to the high standards set by their waitstaff. Whether you're seeking a cozy outdoor dining experience or stellar service paired with great food, Lucrezia Café in Chesterton is a commendable choice.

Stopped in for lunch out of town and so glad we picked this spot from Google! The dreamy patio is beautiful and welcoming, it was exactly the soothing environment environment we needed. The food is INCREDIBLE, and even the bread and olive oil are scrumptious. Great selection of food, wine and cocktails with a chef special menus. I can tell why they won the Times Best of the Region award over and over and over again!
