We enjoy breakfast here regularly and the servers know us. We come for the food return for the prices. They struggled with a cook for a stent but I think they have one worked out. The biscuits and gravy are the best!!! Not like usual bland at other places, this has lots of spice and flavor!
Ps. Restrooms speak volume, time for a makeover at least there.

Sept 2023 update: ⭐️
We got sick w ecoli- food poisoning at Peggy's, within hours we were all sick, tests confirmed by local hospital. Horrible, will never return. 3 out of 3 of us got sick, we all ordered the soup, two of us ordered the tuna. 😔😔😔🤕🤮🤢
Sept. 2021 update: ⭐
Let me start with positives,
Sadie and Joy great servers. But Taylor is one of the worst servers we've ever had in history of service! She is just rude! When we asked for our drinks she said loudly "I only have two hands!" WT!!? Who speaks to a customer that way? You are in the Hospitality business of service, and we are going to ask you to serve things we need, like drinks. You respond with 'yes' not as a rude comment that we are an inconvenience for you. We were so embarrassed.
Peggy, we are a family of five and spend hundreds weekly. Please get that girl some hospitality class or just kindness to start.
2020 Update: ⭐⭐
No longer Shorebird, Visited new Peggy Sues and retuning for low price. Service is good but kitchen, we waited almost an hour for our food.

Now the Shorebird Café
Every visit was a good home cooked breakfast here, kudos to the chef. The server we had, Holly is amazing every time. Best service ever! The new owners are changing the name from Peggy's to a new The Shorebird, a beach theme this will be perfect! ... Hope they decorate like Duneland pizza down the road, beach beautiful 🌞🏖🌅
Stopped in for brunch while traveling, and so happy we did - Peggy Sue's is a cute and cozy family-friendly diner with service that feels like family. The space is cozy and fun with travel- themed decor, and the food is fresh, delicious, and perfect comfort staples at a reasonable price.
Highly recommend the skillets - the Spicy Chorizo was excellent and I also super enjoyed the Porky Pig Skillet with extra vegetables. Can say I never had sausage gravy on a skillet before and it was perfectly balanced. It's a fan-favorite for a reason! Also, the biscuits are light and fluffy and delicious.
Will definitely come again if in the area - bonus is the cute little downtown and park to walk a bit afterwards if you overeat. ?

I drive all the way from Merrillville to Chesterton just to eat breakfast at this place because I do truly enjoy their Denver omelette and their tater tots which is very rare to find a breakfast place that serves tater tots especially as good as they are here I might add. The one issue I did have at this place last time that really irritated me was the fact that I stood at the cash register for more than 5 minutes waiting for someone to come up to the register so I can pay my bill. Then the owner Peggy Sue finally notices that there's people waiting to be seated and also people waiting to pay so they can leave the establishment and she says I'll be there in a couple minutes mind you this is after I stood there for 5 minutes. Common sense would dictate that as a business owner you don't tell clientele to wait a couple more minutes when they've already been standing there for 5 minutes and also that the priority should always be the cash register and accepting payments so the people can leave the establishment and other people can sit down. For some reason she thought it was reasonable to have us wait a few more minutes while she goes back into the kitchen to do whatever she was doing which makes zero sense. Anyways because of that I probably won't be back again anytime soon but the food is good there I'll say that.
