Unfortunately, not impressed at all to go back.
Remodel is fantastic but our party of two bill came up to $104 for a burrito meal and enchilada meal… one alcoholic drink, 2 sour cream, queso and a guacamole. I asked for the receipt but was only given the payment receipt. The burrito was huge but the enchiladas didnt have 2 oz of meat in each and some tasted a bit burnt. Queso was very milky and did not taste like cheese at all. Service took awhile. Asked for some more salsa before we ordered and they didn’t get around to it until almost done with our meal. Not at all busy. No refills.
Same meal no alcoholic drink was around $60 before the remodel.

My 3 children and I came into this restaurant around 2:30PM on a Sunday after hiking at Turkey Run. We were seated fairly quickly. However, it took the waiter around 15 minutes before bring out the chips and salsa and then another 5 minutes after that before he asked for our drink order. Keep in mind they were not busy at all, as a matter of fact they had 3 of their kitchen staff sitting at the bar talking.
The waiter brought the drinks out at a decent pace. The fountain drinks were fine however my margarita was brought out dripping all over the table and the flavor was mediocre at best, even for a house margarita. The chips and salsa were the only redeeming part of our meal for my 7 year old. However my 16, and 11 year old as well as myself were unimpressed with the salsa, it tasted like tomato paste and sadness, very bland.
My oldest ordered a grilled shrimp and rice. The rice was cold and the shrimp was over cooked with no flavor.
My middle child ordered off the kids menu and did not care for the Mac and cheese, however she loved the fries. And I myself had the beef tounge tacos. They came out cold and they did not bring any shells out with my tacos...I had to ask for them, honestly im not sure if they charged extra or just forgot them the first time around. My bill came out to 70 dollars and I definitely feel like I didnt come close to get my money's worth in quality or service. Maybe it was an off day, but I dont plan to go back and find out.
This was our first time here, my brother has spoken incredibly highly of this place in the past and it is gorgeous inside of this restaurant! My niece who's engaged, said it was so pretty she could see someone having their wedding in there. I had the burria which was Unreal how good it was, my son had the birria as well and my niece had the tampiquena. She's is originally from Texas and said it was fantastic. Our server was top notch. The jalapeño margarita was amazing. My niece raved of the coronarita. We can't wait to bring more family here!

Was over charged $40.00 for a carry out order, the salsa alone was $30.00! WE WILL NOT GO BACK.... eat at your own risk

Menu is hard to read only a handful of items have discriptions and only half of those are in English spent forever googling to figure out what things were. Only about 5 things had flaming peppers next to them and what I got wasn't marked as spicy but it was so spicy it was inedible. Waiter was asked to come back later for my drink order as I was still reading the cocktail menu but just stood there awkwardly waiting so I just picked something basic. We had to ask for milk for our 2 yr old 3 times before we finally got it.

Authentic Mexican cuisine at its best. I was in Crawfordsville for a week and went to this restaurant at least 4 times because it was that good.

I’ve heard about El Charro. As someone who has traveled extensively and to many Spanish speaking countries, El Charro is next level good. Price, atmosphere, and exceptional food. The best I’ve found in the Midwest.

El Charro is a very good Mexican restaurant with great food and reasonable prices. The menu might be a bit confusing if you’re not familiar with Mexican dishes, but everything we tried was excellent. Overall, a great experience and definitely recommended.
