I don't have a lot to say. Service was fast and sushi was good. First time customer. The salad was big and fresh and I really liked it as well.

Hot saki was barely warm. Spicy scallop roll wasn't spicy or good. Never again.

got delivery from Umi through Uber I don’t know why I gave them a third chance it was a big mistake. On Instagram, I saw a new role that they had the chef special and it looks so good but I should’ve known that looks are deceiving so I place an order with them. I even called them because it wasn’t listed on the Uber app and I was told just to put it in the notes order something of similar value and then put it in the notes of what I was really ordering and I also was on the phone with the guy when I placed the order. Did they get the order wrong yes they sent me the wrong thing now they were nice enough to say that they would bring me the correct roll that ordered. At first, they forgot about it then suddenly they delivered it and when I received it, it was covered in the smell of cigarette smoke and when I called them to tell them because I have asthma, they told me the person doesn’t smoke well that person might not smoke, but someone in that car had smoked because it was covered with it so basically I was called a liar The lady said that she was gonna call Uber and they were going to refund me however that never happened ! And Umi keeps hanging up on me. Anytime I’ve ever ordered from them. I’ve had nothing but an ordeal. They’re always messing up the order always sending me the wrong thing and I’ve tried to To give them a chance after a chance, I don’t know why because their sushi sucks. It doesn’t taste like anything don’t order from here. I don’t know how they get high reviews. It must be paid for. And they don’t follow instructions. I have a nori allergy and they’ve sent me Sushi with Nori even though I’ve specified to use so I’d even spoken to them on the phone Making sure that they read the notes. Even without all these problems like I said, they’re Food has no flavor It’s a lot of rice and no taste

Absolutely delightful. We weren't quite sure what to order and our waiter explained some of the different rolls and what different sauces taste like. As a sushi novice I felt very well taken care of!!!

I had a takeout order. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty inside. The person I talked to was nice.

But the sushi was mid, at best. The rolls were sloppy, the nori was chewy at times, and there wasn't even a divider between my Wasabi and ginger. I'm not often compelled to leave a review, but it hurt my feelings a little bit that I spent $30 on something I had to fight to enjoy. The only reason I'm not leaving a one star is because of the staff.

I really don’t know how this place has so many good reviews—I found it mediocre across the board. My biggest issue, and the reason I’m writing this review, is that it took almost an hour from the time we ordered until our food arrived. The reason? They were prioritizing takeout orders over in-house diners. That felt incredibly amateurish and showed absolute disregard for their customers.

As for the food and atmosphere, it feels like this place is a bar first and a restaurant second. My general impression is that they don’t have a real passion for Japanese cuisine; they’re co-opting the culture to sell drinks. Sushi is a culinary art, and the best places elevate it beyond just a meal or a job. Obviously, this is Northwest Indiana, so I don’t expect the most authentic experience. That said, it makes Theo’s Dining Group seem like they’re just trying to capitalize on as many different concepts as they can—an approach I can respect in theory but one that completely fails in execution. They don’t seem to understand the culture or the cuisine. This restaurant feels like an afterthought to Prime Steakhouse, just a way to use the real estate effectively, which is exactly why I was hesitant to try it in the first place.

I’ve literally tried every sushi restaurant in the region, and while this wasn’t the best, it also wasn’t the worst. The food was edible, but I wouldn’t stray too far from the beaten path and order anything experimental.

I imagine if you like to drink, this place might be fun to check out before heading to the square. They did seem to have a decent selection of Japanese whiskey.

Overall, I gave them a chance because I’ve enjoyed other Theo’s Dining Group restaurants, particularly Avgo, but I left questioning whether I want to keep patronizing any of them. The entire time I was at Umi—when I wasn’t focused on my date—I was thinking about how I would have preferred to take her somewhere else.
