Although they are old, I wish I had read the reviews before ordering food from here. Like the previous reviews mentioned. The mac and cheese was bland, the greens taste like they came out of a can and so did the yams. I have never had yellow cake that taste more like salt than sugar. I also noticed a lot of elderly people coming in as well as people wearing scrubs which makes me wonder if they cater to older clientele who has dietary restrictions. This food is called soul food but it had no soul. The only plus is that the lady at the register was very nice
Love the chicken Wings and Whiting Fish! Greens, sweet potato and Mac is good too
I guess Charlow's grill and Nona's soul food is the same place, but you guys should be ashamed of yourselves for serving food that lacks flavor and was clearly made with no love. The macaroni and cheese was sad and bland I threw it away as soon as I got home, the greens were unseasoned, the cornbread was dry, crumbly and salty, the yams was just decent. The fish was the only good thing on the plate.
I am a southern and the mac and cheese was watery the dressing was buttery and there was no sage, however the fish was great! The peach cobbler was not suitable but the customer service was great!
I ordered the perch, which was attractive and tasty. The wait staff is extremely polite. However, the menu needs edited, and the restaurant sign should be larger. Otherwise, everything is tasty and priced right!
The fish was??, priced good, nice portions!
Called in order at 8p. They said 25 mins. I arrived at 8:27p, and waited at least one minute to be greeted at the window, as 2 other people were waiting on food. Finally when my food was brought to the window and my ordered was quoted, wrong. I repeated my order to the server and she informed me they had the wrong fish inside of 1 of the 2 containers. She left the window without further communicating to ME, the customer, as she and the cook whispered to one another in the back for about 5mins. By this time its 8:38p, no one is explaining anything to me, and I hear a microwave bell coming from the kitchen, and notice all the sides are coming out of glass cookware covered in foil, on a table near the window. Not willing to risk eating 1 hot order, and an order which was cooked before I arrived, (unsure what was being microwaved. .nothing was ever explained to me) I left. I'm not sure how the food is, but the communication is poor to say the least. Good luck. Communicate with your customers, rather than leaving them at the window. Its sort of rude.
I've first went here when it first opened and had a bad experience, and a couple weeks ago, I checked back to see if things have changed over time. Both times I've went, they were consistent with how things were ran, and ultimately it made the experience unpleasant. Both times I've went, I've ordered the Chicken Basket, which includes 5 pieces of chicken wings and fries as the sides. I've been told both times, it would be done in 20 minutes. Both times, I went there after 20 minutes and it wasn't done and both times I had to wait over 15 - 30 additional minutes for it to be done. I've talked to other customers and they also were told 20 minutes and they would end up having to wait for their food.To add on to this, it's important to note in any dish, the side orders shouldn't outshine the main dish. Side orders should supplement the main dish. Both times I've went, the fries were basic -- plain with no seasoning, but I would rather eat all the fries than the 5 pieces of chicken they would put in the basket, because ultimately, I would end up throwing all of the chicken in the trash. This happened both times. The chicken tasted like it had no seasoning whatsoever, and when I bit into it, it was very slimy and rubbery to the point that I thought the chicken was raw. The texture was off, there was a strong odor coming from chicken, and the outside of the chicken was very dark; it tells me that they don't change their grease. Did I tell you this happened both times? Two stars because I enjoyed the fries, even if I had to season it myself. Even the piece of white bread at the bottom of the chicken was pleasant enough to carry the dish in tasting better. Overall experience I had while going to this restaurant was very subpar. There's a lot of problems that can be easily fixed, such as not throwing out a 20 minute wait time when you are backlogged on orders, changing the grease so food wouldn't look dark as night, change the person in charge of frying the chicken, or at least throwing a bit of seasoning on the food.I'll still look forward for the next time I'll go when I'll hear good changes that actually takes place, but until then I don't think I'll be back any time soon.
not as good as previous owner
