This place is so cute! I love the house that it's in. So much character and such a cool atmosphere. I dined here right prior to their closure during the pandemic, so there was very little seating and all of the tables were spread out. I didn't mind this at all! It wasn't particularly busy during the time we went. We sat upstairs by a window overlooking the river. It was such a peaceful dinner!

Food was excellent..outdoor patio on the river was beautiful..service was great...only negative would be the fact they had just decided to reopen the restaurant for dining after the pandemic...draft beers were not available

We ordered curbside due to Covid-19. Our order was hot when we picked it up. I had the Cajun pork meal with sides, it was pretty good. The pork was tender, no fat on it, the broccoli side was fairly good. My wife had the chicken sandwich and she said it was delicious, very good. I forget the name of the appetizer we had, some type of dirty rice balls, and they were ok. All in all we were very pleased. Of course, we would prefer to go in and sit down to enjoy dinner, maybe soon.

Clean, nice view, and fairly tasty food. Make sure to get there early for a good seat. The pork loins were a little salty in my opinion. Alcohol is a bit pricey too ?

The restaurants along the Ohio river keep knocking it out of the park. Dined outdoors despite it being a bit cool. We wanted to watch the wood float by on the river. Started with a couple of apple cider old fashioned whiskeys. If we didn't have to drive home (2 hours) we would have had at least 4 more each. They were amazing. With beautiful little cinnamon sticks in the glass. Goat cheese pita dip was the selected appetizer. If you go here and don't order the goat cheese, everyone will know that you're stubborn and probably not very intelligent. I had the shrimp and grits for dinner. They used risotto as the grit portion and that made it a full on entree. Absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend. My lady diner had the smashed burger with the truffle fries. She thoroughly enjoyed the burger and I sampled the fries. Whatever the charge is for the truffle fries over a standard fry, find a way to cover that cost. Well worth any amount of money. The building is very nice and overlooks a nice section of the Ohio river. Staff was amazing and attentive and were also responsible for the delicious drinks. Thank you.

Portage is an amazing place and a stellar dining experience! The food is outstanding and the view is second to none. They are doing such a great job during COVID; eat on the patio or get takeout as soon as you can!

The Portage House is a quaint old house that's been turned into a restaurant. I had a burger and honestly it wasnt that great. But this isnt the place to come for a burger anyway. My friend had the shrimp and grits. I had a taste and it was a winner. Some beautiful views of the river. Charming place.

The best around jeffersonville. The food is prepared fresh and by people that actually care about you and the food they serve. Do yourself a favor and go visit these guys!!

Very nice patio and indoor seating, not sure if the regular setup is to order at the bar or if that's just due to Covid but I wasn't a huge fan of that. Seems a bit upscale for ordering at the bar, not really having a server & dollar canned soft drinks. Food was good & the few staff members we saw were very friendly.

Portage House is awesome! This spot offers indoor and outdoor seating, and their patio is where it's at. I love that you have a view of the river, and bridges, from the patio. It makes for a great dining experience! For our most recent dinner here I opted for the Vodka Cherry Limeade. This cocktail wouldn't normally be my go-to choice, but on the evening we visited it sounded just perfect, and it was. The vodka, cherry liqueur, and lime was perfectly refreshing and was the perfect compliment to my meal. We started with the Mac and Cheese Balls appetizer. They were served hot and fresh, perfectly crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. B opted for the Crispy Fried Chicken Sandwich, which is one of the items Portage House is known for. And, it makes sense that they are, because this sandwich is awesome! I selected the Cornmeal Fried Catfish, which is served with Red Cabbage Slaw and Chips. It was fantastic! I love friend catfish, and this was some of the best I've had. It was cooked to perfection, really hot and crispy. I added hot sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. If you're in the area and looking for a great spot for dinner, you should definitely check out Portage House. We'll definitely be back!
