Shift Restaurant and Bar

My Mom normally loves your restaurant, so I took her for Mother's Day at your Batesville location. Didn't know it was family style buffet ONLY until we get there, but went ahead because we've enjoyed the food on previous occasions. The ham was lukewarm and resembled the ham you would have on a hot ham and cheese sandwich in elementary school, the turkey tasted like somebody put a fancy sauce on thick turkey sliced lunch meat, and every single side we had, had a twang of lemon... though none of the sides we had should have had lemon in it. My Mom, God love her, wasn't saying a word, but you could see disappointment written on her face, which was completely different than the expression she gave me when I told her where we were originally going. if you're going to change the menu for one special day for a family style dinner, at least make sure the quality is better than that when you would get at a Golden Corral. The only bright side of this experience is that my mother will be getting a second Mother's Day, as I am taking her out again next Sunday to make up for this disappointing meal.

The Shift Batesille over promised, overbooked and terribly under delivered for this Easter event. We love The Shift for a casual lunch but they were way out of their capabilities. They were desperately understaffed in the kitchen and in the dining room. In the course of 2 hours to complete we saw at least three tables leave in frustration. We were seated at our reserved time but it took over 40 minutes to have the meal brought to our table. Salads were brought with the entree instead of a 1st course. Basic drinks were provided but refills were never offered. The sides were generous but the proteins were barely enough for 2 people at a sitting of 5. Promised refills never came. Had they, they would have been consumed with cold sides. The tenderloin was overcooked and dry, the ham was more fat than meat.Sides were decent but I expect they hoped you would fill up on those and not the proteins. The strawberry shortcake was only by definition a short cake, a yellow cake severed with a few fresh strawberries not what is normally expected as strawberry shortcake amd the brownie was a sad brown flavorless triangle. At this point I don't know if we will go back for lunch but I know we will not visit their restaurant for any future events of this type. $28/per person was a rip-off for what was provided.

We walked out after 20 minutes of no service. Had reservations and the restaurant wasn’t busy. I’m not sure I’ll ever go back.

Since our review, things have changed. We have tried twice to receive service and have either been turned away when space was clearly available or ignored and passed by. This is strike two… we are so disappointed and saddened by their lack of service.

My husband and I love Shift! This restaurant has been a staple to our neighborhood. Adam, our server and reliable bartender has always been so dependable and delightfully friendly. We had our daughter’s rehearsal dinner here in 2020. They were incredibly accommodating. Their service and food has never wavered. Tonight’s dinner was no exception! We had incredible service by Adam and the food was excellent!

Vegetarian options: I am in love with their grilled vegetable sandwich and their pasta option.

Dietary restrictions: I am diabetic and eat Mediterranean.They have gone out of their way numerous times for me.

We used to love this place, but now we go once every six months only to remind ourselves why we don’t eat here. We had fish and chips, it was terrible. Had absolutely no flavor at all.
Our server was great though. The prices are WAY high for the quality of the food.

I’ve never had a worse experience at a restaurant in my entire life. I ordered takeout on Valentine’s Day, to be picked up at 543pm. LONG story short, after waiting 1 hour for my food with my 5 year old, we finally left with half our order.
It took me 4 times flagging down a different waitress and the hostess just to get the manager to come out from the back so I could get my $80 and get out of there. It probably took 15-20 min just for the manager to come out. The poor hostess didn’t even want to come back to the podium bc she felt so bad, not to mention another man that came in at the same time as me took almost as long to get his food. They didn’t even offer to comp him for the total inconvenience it caused.
The entrance so so crammed with people waiting for a table bc the 1 hostess they had working was gone for periods of time trying to figure out where my food was.
The manager FINALLY gave me my money back and a $50 gift card after waiting for an hour while my 5 yr old ate his stale room temp food on the bench. Other people who were waiting commented things like-I see the place hasn’t changed.
I would never go back there even if it was the only place left in town. It was unreal.

Called in a pickup order. I asked for the cilantro serrano sauce on the side, They added it anyway, so I didn't eat my Pulled Chicken Steet Tacos. I asked for all the Fried Green Tomatoes to be on the side, and I received ZERO PESTO & ZERO BRUESCETTA !!! For $15.00 there were only 5 small heavily breaded tomatoes. The Asian Slaw has no flavor. And the Bacon Jam Burger is a total waste. I am a Trained French culinary Chef with a Pastry degree, a Plant-based degree, and an AOS. Adam needs to extremely up his game. I will not waste my money again. What a crappy Valentine's Day!!! I would have rather had an Arby's Roast Beef.

The restaurant was very clean, and the wood and brick makes it feel very cozy. I came for lunch with family. The food looked great, but I had a veggie sub, and while I loved the ingredients, they were pretty skimpy for $14, and it was very salty. The fries were awesome. The service is where it fell short. Adam was very nice and knowledgeable, im guessing when he is really busy, he's great. We went in during the lull around 3pm. He came to the table pretty quickly, and got our drunk order. I was done with my first beer before he came back to the table to take an order. It should be noted that there were only 2 other tables and a bar guest, all of whom already had food and drink. He never came back to check on how the food was, and we fully pre-bussed our table, all put our coats on, and set our dish stack on the end of the table. It was 14 minutes before he came over to ask if we needed a box or a check. He dropped the check quickly, then went to the host stand to talk to another server that had just arrived. I made eye contact at least three times while he was talking to the other employee, at which point he went to the bathroom instead of coming over to take payment. We were in visiting family, and they told us this place had great food but lousy service. That statement should be revised to say good food and lousy service.

The food was not the best tasting, and the menu choice was not a huge variety, but they will make a custom meal for you. The atmosphere is very nice. By 8 pm you could feel they were pushing us to leave.

I have tried all of the salads and have enjoyed each of them. Service is a bit slow, but the food carries the day. Will continue to return.
