I'll always be grateful for those friends who've donated a variety of food delivery gift cards during my current cancer challenges. This has been a particularly challenging and exhausting week. So, tonight I decided to go for delivery via one of my GrubHub gift cards and try out a new dining option - TenderFix by Noah Schnapp. TenderFix is a virtual restaurant created by Nextbite. Yes, it is essentially one of a growing number of "ghost kitchens." It's a delivery only establishment utilizing an existing kitchen (IHOP). And yes, "by Noah Schnapp" means that Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp has attached his name to this chicken-delivery outfit with a small menu that includes both chicken and plant-based chicken options. Fortunately, Stranger Things is much more satisfying. It's worth noting that right around 1,000 locations of TenderFix opened nationwide in a single day. It's also worth noting that they do offer delivery themselves (reportedly without a delivery fee). This recently launched effort (actually just in 2023) offers tender sandwiches, chicken sliders, and tenders (2 and 4-count). They also the same options for plant-based and work with Morningstar. They do offer beverages, a couple desserts, and each entree comes with waffle fries. If you think that the whole chicken and waffle fries thing sounds familiar thanks to a certain more religious chain, you'd be right. I ordered a 4-tender meal - again, it comes with a side of fries. I also ordered an unsweetened iced tea. They offer two desserts - a chocolate chip cookie and a Peruvian chocolate brownie. I received the 4 tenders (yay). I received the waffle fries, though calling it a side is a stretch since there were about 5 fries. I did not receive the unsweetened iced tea. I received a chocolate chip cookie instead of the brownie. On a side note, GrubHub did refund me the money for the lack of a drink. I checked on the restaurant's receipt and they did have the correct order - they just screwed it up. The chicken was okay. It struck me as a lot like Arby's. I did get my dipping sauce. The waffle fries were decent, though a ridiculously small order. As I noted, I did not receive the drink ordered and received the wrong dessert item. At best, this was a middle-of-the-road order made worse by inaccuracy and neglect. Of course, I know this particular IHOP and shouldn't be surprised but this is a definite disappointment for an upstart effort with a celebrity name attached. Ultimately, this gave me pretty much no reason to return and considering the number of decent options in this area I can't really fathom a reason to do so. I seldom go with negative reviews, but integrity demands I call this what it was - a just plain bad experience.
