Fiddlehead Restaurant

After visiting the historic Barker Mansion in Michigan City, Indiana, I sought out Fiddleheads restaurant, which arguably offers the best lunch in town. Located at 422 Franklin Street, it is open from 11 to 8 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, 11 to 2 on Wednesday and 11 to 9 on Friday and Saturday. I started with six fried shrimp with bangin' sauce, slaw, mixed greens and green onions. Then I consumed a two-fisted grass fed burger with Romaine lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese and caramelized onion on a pretzel roll with truffle/parmesan fries. It's a 55-mile trip from my home on Chicago's Gold Coast to Michigan City, from the Dan Ryan Expressway to the Chicago Skyway to the Indiana Toll Road. But it's a thrill to stand on the beach in Michigan City and gaze out over Lake Michigan and see the tops of the Chicago skyline on a clear day. Try it some time.

No way to contact the restaurant in a timely manner! 48 hrs to get back with out of town customers. We mistakenly left a credit when paying.

Pleasant place. Good wait staff. Shrimp tacos were pretty good. Shrimp are extra large and although the menu says they are fried, they seemed closer to broiled, nicely done and not greasy and only slightly breaded. Pleasantly surprised about that. Hamburger reported to be fine. Sweet potato tots were good.

This is such a neat, innovative place! Brussel sprouts were AMAZING with candied crispy bacon bits and drizzle in a make sauce! 🤤 We also loved their fish tacos and mini burgers.

Spinach and artichoke dip was to die for!!! Smash burger and fries did not disappoint either! Everyone was very friendly and attentive checking in frequently with us. I took one star off for atmosphere only because half of the lights were one color temperature like a warm 2700k and the other towards bar were a bit brighter, it was a darker atmosphere which I loved but the color differences created a glare effect for me.

Omg I was doing a cleaning job in the area ,the outside smells like paradise !!!

We stopped in for lunch and wasn’t disappointed. Really nice interiors and decor. The food was excellent! Loved the burger Monday’s $5 off deal. Just remind the waiter before the tab comes. We had the Mother Clucker sandwich and the firecracker burger on gluten free bread. Both were really tasty and didn’t disappoint. Just with the GF was actually a burger bun instead of sandwich bread. Took a pice of their lemon cake to go…really good…just pricey.

I've been here from Kalamazoo, Michigan about 4-5 times now. It's special. The BEST lemon drops and good food every time! Nice atmosphere, mellow, relaxed. Conducive to conversation. Servers are perfect. Prices good, esp compared to other places with far worse atmosphere

Grabbed take out on the way through. Melter Skelter was crazy good. A gooey, cheesy, crispy mess of a sandwich. Bring napkins!
My wife had The Vegan and says it was delicious.

We had a lovely time with delicious food! Each member of my family was able to pick a meal to their liking. No complaints by normally picky eaters. My daughter is on a very strict Fodmap diet and she was able to find a meal that suited her needs and tastes. We wanted to come back for each meal for the rest of our family vacation.

We are tourists and saw this as we were walking around. The food is amazing! Enjoyed the Mother Clucker and BLT sandwiches. I got my Chipotle mayo on the side and that helped me taste the bacon jam better.
Parm truffle fries were great.
Staff is friendly.
I highly recommend!

Our waiter Mike was awesome, the food was delicious, and the restaurant looks very nice. It’s so nice to be able to eat gluten free fried pickles!!!!! I wasn’t a huge fan of the orange blossom lemonade at first but it grew on me!
