6 stars!!!! Incredible food! The jerk chicken was just like I ate when I lived in South Caicos Island. Ribs Incredible!! Got to speak with a Vietnam Vet that works there. Great guy. Awesome service. Even the couple next table over was talking about how good it was. I had the buffet, everything on it was great! Its a hole in the wall, in a residential neighborhood which as I've learned traveling all over the lower 48, makes the absolute best places to eat. If you're in Michigan City, please stop here. Great service, and you support a true American Marine Corp Vet!

I’m not usually one to complain, I understand no restaurant is perfect but I am sooo disappointed after our visit. I’ve been coming to up-n-smoke for years and I have absolutely loved it everytime. But my boyfriend and I came in tonight for our biweekly date night. We came in shortly before 5 p.m. and it was not busy. We waited about 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us, after a few minutes one girl came up to us and took our drink order and told us the other girl would come give us menus. Again a few minutes later the other girl finally comes up and takes our drink order again and gives us menus. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks and we ordered. After about 25 minutes of waiting for chicken tips and a pulled pork sandwich the waitress comes up and tells us that they’re out of pulled pork and offered an appetizer and a discount and asked if we wanted something else. We chose the brisket sandwich. It took about 10-15 minutes to get the appetizer and then another 15-20 minutes to get our food. The chicken tips were cold and the brisket sandwich contained mostly fatty pieces. I asked for boxes and the bill. At this point the restaurant was basically empty. It took quite a bit of time for us to get boxes and the bill. The bill did not contain the “discount” the waitress offered. At that point I was so irritated that I just paid and left. I will not be back unfortunately. The meals that we had were not worth the wait nor the $40 I spent.

Up N Smoke MC delivers a Sunday Brunch buffet that’s hard to beat in Michigan City. From the moment we arrived—right as they were finishing setting up—the food was fresh, flavorful, and inviting. The spread was surprisingly impressive for the intimate space, offering a wide variety of options to suit nearly every palate.
The staff made the experience even better, keeping the drinks flowing and the energy lively throughout the meal. Although the music was a touch loud for my taste, it added to the upbeat vibe of the place. One of the standout features was their self-serve stations, including a make-your-own omelet and waffle station. I gave the waffle maker a try, though I’ll admit it could benefit from a quick cheat sheet for operation—I managed to mangle mine, but it still tasted delightful, especially paired with some fresh hot chicken.
The variety on offer ensured that everyone in our group was satisfied. My pescatarian companion had no trouble finding plenty of options, including shrimp and grits, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Pricing was reasonable given the quality and quantity of the offerings, and there were even drink specials to round out the experience.
If you’re in search of a new brunch spot, don’t sleep on Up N Smoke. Between the flavorful food, attentive staff, and fun atmosphere, it’s a spot worth checking out—just be ready to bring your brunch appetite!

Customer service is exceptional, the Food is Amazing and my family eats here on a regular basis they know our names, I love this place and Highly Recommend It!!!!!
