So, I’ve been coming to Kitaro for some few years now and I highly recommend this restaurant because of the excellence in service‼️ Rather reasoning inside or carry out this place is really fantastic‼️ I have had an array of their sushi and some other things on the menu and it is exquisite‼️
I have now done carry out numerous on occasions and a very pleasant, professional and knowledgeable young lady by the name of Amelia have taken care of me very well‼️ I can appreciate excellence in customer service and Amelia is that young woman! Thank you for hiring such a magnificent professional‼️

I recently visited Kitaro Surf & Turf restaurant with a friend, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in a long time.
We shared four beautifully prepared sushi dishes — each one an artful balance of flavor, texture, and presentation.
The combinations were bold yet harmonious, showing a true mastery of taste.
The space itself is stunning: spacious yet intimate, with a bar area that feels both modern and inviting.
Every detail, from the lighting to the layout, adds to the restaurant’s calm and elegant atmosphere.
Meeting the owner made the experience even more special. Their warmth and passion for their craft were as evident as the care in every dish. It’s rare to find a place that feels so personal and refined at the same time — truly a gem worth revisiting.

Two sisters & husbands and mom out looking for a decent sushi place; the problem is that the husbands were from New York and California, and restaurants in Munster are atrocious. Kitaro did not surprise in this regard. Service was sloppy with the mains coming out in waves rather than all at once, and inattentive with no follow up. Certainly not worth the mandatory 20% tip that comes with a party of 5, plus 3% fee for using a credit card. My salmon nigiri wasn't trimmed properly, but our waiter never checked in so there's $12 down the tube (for 2 pieces). Prices were Chicago level, with the special rolls small and overpriced, miso soup was said to be overly salted...really nothing exceptional here. The coup de grace was getting a call on the way home saying they gave us the wrong bill; can you come back to sign the correct one? Maybe they make a decent steak, but we wanted sushi.

The power lunch for $25 includes a appetizer, sushi roll, protein and rice. You can get easily swept away to upgrade the courses. I added a soup and filet and still happy with the $35 total.

I came last week for the first time and had an amazing experience! Service was great and the food was so good! The waitress was AMAZING! I came for a second time this week because of how great of an experience I had previously. I did not have the same experience this time. It was not horrible, but it was not great either. I came solo and the host was awkward about me asking to sit at a table and not at the bar. There were many tables available and it did not fill up while I was there.

I came for sushi and accidentally had a spiritual experience...
Let’s start with the plot twist: the sirloin steak. At a sushi restaurant. I know. I judged it too. But this steak showed up like it had something to prove. Perfectly cooked, juicy, seasoned like it went to culinary finishing school.
Then the fall off the bone Korean beef short ribs arrived and basically whispered, “Relax, we got this.” I barely looked at them and the meat surrendered. Tender, rich, dramatic in the best way. If comfort food wore a tuxedo, it would be these ribs.
Now let’s discuss the CLEAR SOUP. How is something so simple so elite? It’s like they distilled flavor itself. One sip and I felt healed. Hydrated. Emotionally stable. It’s the kind of soup that makes you sit up straighter and reconsider your life choices.
And the sushi rolls? Absolutely ridiculous. Fresh, balanced, and rolled tighter than my budget before payday. Every bite was clean, flavorful, and dangerously addictive. I told myself I’d share. I lied.
But the real MVP? ANDREA!
Andrea ran that dining room like a five star general of hospitality. Attentive without hovering, funny without trying too hard, and somehow always appeared right when we needed something. Water low? Boom. Extra sauce? Already on the way. Emotional support after I ordered too much food? Present.
Between the steak flex, the ribs melting into legend, the soup restoring my soul, and sushi that deserves its own fan club, this place is officially in my regular rotation. Go hungry. Leave happy. Possibly reconsider all other sushi restaurants.
