Yamato Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi

I've been here probably one hundred times, from the old locale to the new. It has remained my favorite restaurant in Richmond for many years. The new place has great ambiance and the food is as good as always. From bento boxes to sushi, there or to go, it never fails to deliver a great meal.

Was not impressed! Came in and there was noone in sight to greet us or seat us for a good 15 minutes. Finally someone showed up but was not friendly whatsoever. Our server acted as if we were bothering her the entire time. Food was not good and we got very small portions for too much money. Next time I will just go to Texas Roadhouse where I feel more welcomed and you get way better food and more of it for your buck.

Absolutely AMAZING!!! Our server Erica was phenomenal and suggested all of the right things. She suggested the Yamato Roll as well as the hibachi filet mignon and all of it was so yummy! We also received a free appetizer coupon where we got to try the crab Rangoon and again SO GOOD!!! We will be back for sure!

Little different setting from most hibachi restaurants I been to as they didn’t appear to have open cook tops but that was perfectly fine! The food was very reasonable priced in comparison to most hibachi restaurants and the portions were very large. It was good but not as flavorful as some of my favorite ones. Still… highly recommend and will certainly come back when in Richmond! Staff was very prompt and super friendly!!!

This Place is a terrible the crab ragoon looks like chips like there is nothing on there. Is this how you treat your customers with BAD FOOD

After dining in for the first time, we had to go back two weekends in a row. Food, service, and atmosphere hit every mark. The hostess is charismatic and always offers crayons and a coloring sheet for our toddler. All of our servers have been impeccable. This is the most relaxing place to eat in Richmond. The music and lighting inside really add to the vibe, the dining room is intimate but not cramped at all. The pineapple sake is worth ordering, crab rangoons to die for. I’ve ordered the bento box both times and have been very happy with the variety of options, the value, and portion sizes. It’s nice that they offer a loyalty card for returning customers also, we will definitely continue dining in here.

The food was pretty good. It was basically hibachi without sitting at the hibachi grill. I got the prime rib and shrimp. It came with rice and vegetables.

Such a beautifully decorated building, the staff was nice and friendly they check on us just thebright amount.
Food was delicious, we each got a bento and it was a great way to get a tast of different things.
The Yamato roll and crab ragoons where my husbands favorite.
The miso soup and shrimp tempura are my favorite along with his.
Great place for a family celebrating something or a date night where you want to treat yourself without breaking the bank.

The food was generous, fresh and nice. The booths were incredibly uncomfortable (bare boards?!?) I liked what I got in my bento box (fried rice, shrimp + veggie tempura, seaweed, spicy tuna) and had leftovers. The ambience was meh and the service was great!

Had the Bento Box with beef broth soup Hibatchi noodles, spicy tuna roll, dumplings and chicken Katsu. The meal overall was good. I’d give the food a 3.5 and everything else as listed. M passing thru but would eat there again.

The food is adequate. I come here for the Sake Flight. Have a few, it won't matter about the food. Stop by if you're in the area
