It’s obvious Anna the owner is very passionate about the products she produces and providing wonderful experiences for her customers.
The pastries are beautifully crafted, fresh and bursting with flavor, from the buttery croissants to the rich decadent tarts. Whether you’re a sweet tooth or just looking for a quality treat this shop truly elevates the pastry game. Highly recommend for anyone craving a delicious artisanal pastry in a welcoming setting.

It is a happy day for me when I visit this pastry shop, which I try to do every day it is open. I lived in Europe for three years and travelled extensively there, always on the lookout for a good patisserie. When I moved back to the Fort Wayne area, I never imagined I would find a bakery that reminds me of my best European experiences, and in Roanoke no less! I have sampled all of Anna’s creations over the past seven or so years, and she has done numerous special orders for me, including cakes, pies, and quiches.

This cute shop has a great variety of foods. All equally delicious! I had a cake made for a party a few years ago and my friends STILL talk about how delicious the buttercream frosting was. The owner executed my vision for the cake and it tasted amazing as well. My kids also rave about the macarons and are always so excited when I bring them home.

I love this quaint little bakery. My favorite was the lemon scones until I tried the flourless cake & brownie bombs. Proper Pastries catered our 2 daughters weddings cake for 1 & breakfast pastries for the other. They were amazing!
Don’t forget to get her freshly baked bread!

Every time we travel back to Indiana to see family we have to make a 2 stops at Proper Pastry; one for breakfast pastries for the next morning and the other is before we leave we have to stock up on the delicious bread. The owner and operator does phenomenal as a one-woman-show, the quality of the products are incomparable (I am determined to try every macaron flavor). I wish we had Proper Pastry in Chicago but trips back home to Roanoke are always extra sweet!

We live out of town and whenever we come back to visit, we make a stop! My kids love all the flavor choices for the macarons and we always leave with at least a box of sweets (but often two). We always appreciate the quality ingredients that are used as well. It is a bonus that I can find gluten-free options. Love that downtown Roanoke has such a unique and quality pastry shop!!

The macaroons are delicious! Every time I’m in Roanoke shopping with my sisters we have to stop in the Proper Pastry to pick up one of each flavor! 😃

This locally owned and run pastry shop was such a delight! We already love the small town feel of Roanoke, and Anna at Proper Pastry was so accommodating and easy to work with. Not to mention I’ve never had a better macaroon and this thing called the chocolate brownie bomb… never had better! And plenty more to choose from, can’t go wrong.

We have been to this bakery numerous times and the owner has never been nice. The scones are good but not worth having to deal with the sour puss. We go elsewhere now.

We go here from FW and have always loved the experience and enjoying various non-GF/GF breads and pastries. It reminds me of the bakeries back home in Detroit. The raw smell of flour and oven, an experience that’s so rare now. I understand the amount of work it takes to run a bakery and appreciate the owner is always her authentic self. The product speaks for itself.

While visiting the shops in Roanoke, my sister and I stopped in here to try the pastry. The danish were good and fresh, though a bit doughy. If the young lady working there is the owner, totally unfriendly. Never said hello or thanked us for coming in. However, when another customer comes in, she greeted him and was very friendly…possibly a regular. So we like giving business to locals, but will pass going here again.
