I went to El PortalMexican Grill on Friday, August 6th at 1 o'clock. My friends and I were going to meet for a birthday celebration at 2 o'clock. I decided to go by early because no one would answer the phone. Upon arrival, the establishment was closed although the hours were posted for 12 to 9:30. A voice mail saying that they were closed would have been appreciated. If I could give them zero stars I would. I traveled from the Chicago area to St John, Indiana to find out that they were closed. Very disappointing.An update on their website could have avoided me from that trip.

It WASNT OPEN!!! I got there at 1:00 pm. Sign said CLOSED FOR REMODELING. You would think k this Information would be on their website. I tried calling g in advance, not even a recorded message saying anything . Very poor business sense. I doubt I would try again. Negative zero rating from me..

Good food ok service, the exterior of the place is awful in dire need of some landscaping and paint. If I didn't know the food was good I probably wouldn't stop as others obviously don't because it is never crowded

Great ambiance, delicious food and very reasonable prices! I don’t know why this place isn’t jam packed! The food is way better than la quesadilla and la carreta. My new go to Mexican restaurant even though is 20 minutes from my house.

Horrible. My son ordered the milanesa, was so salty, he could not eat it. Other son ordered the nachos, when the waitress brought them to us, she spilt the whole plate on the table and just looked at us and asked us if we wanted them replaced. We said, yes as I don't want my son eating from the actual table, Thank you every much. When she brought the new nachos, we could tell that she just transferred the original nachos to a new plate.. Husband ordered the Mexican americano, the steak had so much fat and cut like rubber. Was never asked for refills. Will never go back.

Came for dinner with my family. Great atmosphere, spacious, good music and clean. The guacamole is amazing! Couldn’t be any better. I was impressed with the enchiladas. It was very unique. My husband and I had 2 different enchilada dishes and they were both very good. We are very picky and El Portal definitely will be our go to place for Mexican!!!
