We were hoping to find a good New England sandwich. We had high hopes that Poplar, originating in New York would know how to make a grinder. Not a sub, or hogie, a genuine grinder. What Italian restaurant doesnt even have Provalone cheese as an option for a sandwich? Our wait staff was more than helpful. I asked for the Italian dressing on the side, knowing I would be taking most of it home. The chef (cook?) put the dressing on the side in a to-go container. I appreciated that. They also put the meat on the side? The onion rigs were average. The wine good. Beer selection limited on draft. Apparently they're known for their pizza. We will try that next time. I don't want to sound negative. We were hoping for something that would satisfy a craving, we received a meal that nourished our bodies. In defense of Popular, we have been trying to go there and try them for several months. The day we made it was the day we had to say goodbye to our beautiful and sweet 9 year old Golden (retriever), Serah. That we tasted the food at all, was a credit to their ability for fresh bread and ingredients.

This was our third trip here and I feel bad I haven't done a review yet. The food is incredible. So here goes. It's like going back in time to the 70s/80s The haddock dinner is amazing, the batter and the fish is top quality. The pizza is really good. Don't sleep on the pizza pockets, basically they are Italian egg rolls. For me; Italian food starts with a really good sauce, and Poplar red sauce is amazing. It's perfect really. Also the fried chicken dinner is an incredible value. The chicken is plump and juicy and the crispy goodness is perfect. The flavor and snap of the fried is really really good. The mashed potatoes and white gravy takes you back home. Also tried the sweet potato fries and they are the best I've ever had. The service is amazing. They are on top of everything and treat you very well. The green beans are also freaking amazing. So far we haven't had anything there we didn't like. Definitely need to go more often.
