Van's Steakhouse Baxter Springs

We found Van’s Steakhouse to be a welcoming locally owned restaurant. The atmosphere is very casual with a definite western flare. The service is very friendly and attentive. Order your food and be seated, they do all the rest. Our food was good and served piping hot. The coconut cream pie was outstanding.

What a sweet family that run the restaurant. They and their staff are always considerate and attentive to your needs. I have food allergies and they’ve always cooked for me. Across the board comfort food with THE BEST salads. A Great Rt 66 place to stop for a break. Oh and don’t forget the homemade pies ….to die for! Back room for large groups too.

I really wanted to like this place, but it was just so-so. We were traveling and looking for a good steak. They call themselves a steakhouse. The ribeye was recommended when I asked and since that's my favorite cut, I was glad to hear it. I ordered it prepared medium.

The steak had no fat or marbling; it was not melt-in-your-mouth. The mashed potatoes were only luke warm and I had asked for butter. I guess they had no way of knowing that I'm from a dairy state and meant butter, not a whipped spread that was 48% vegetable oil.

It was just disappointing. They had good reviews and they were a steakhouse-- I was looking forward to a thick, juicy ribeye. That's not what I got. The people were friendly, but they didn’t ask how the food was. It was as if they knew. I'd have ordered something different if I'd known that steak wasn't their specialty.

Great chicken fried steak! Kind of a cafeteria atmosphere, but simple is good. Great value along Route 66. You can even eat your dinner sitting on a saddle!

Literally, my favorite place to eat in town! So good and everyone is always so nice and attentive. The chicken fried steak is my favorite meal! And if you can have dessert, have a slice of homemade pecan pie à la mode! It is life changing! Who knew 🤷🏼‍♀️♥️👏🏼

Almost everything is precooked food he just repeats or frys. His roast beef is good, but steaks are rubber, burgers precooked, and rest is just frozen fried food.

We visited at lunch time and the service was fantastic. I’m not sure which part was my favorite. We all had pie and the cherry was my favorite. I always get the steak tips and take home leftover. So good.
