We were told it was okay to sit in the back room, so we did. It was about halfway through dinner rush. The lady who told us we could sit in the back followed us back but didn't offer us menus or anything. We sat for probably at least 10 minutes as staff came and went stocking the freezers and such. Finally located menus. Finally a server brought another table their food and noticed us sitting there. I ordered a mushroom swiss burger with fries, which was on special for $5. Mom ordered a ham salad and paid $2 upcharge to add egg. The food came out a lot faster than it took to order it. The burger and curly fries were very good, especially considering the price. The salad had a lot of toppings, and a bit of cut ham. The $2 egg was a sliced boiled egg that they'd forgotten until she reminded the server. The big salad was served on a small plate, which made it difficult to mix up and corral as Mom ate it. I'm not much of a fan of shredded lettuce, but at least their lettuce did seem very fresh. I can see why they stay busy with those special lunch prices. The food was quite good for the price. It's not anything fancy, but seemed clean and more popular than the other restaurants in town.

For a small town atmosphere, this is where the locals go for a very good, large portions, breakfast. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes the simple, genuine atmosphere. Very reasonably priced.

It's a old school cafe with super amazing food, good coffee and some fantastic dessert type bread. Cinnamon rolls are a must!Parking: Plenty of space , gravel parking lot . If you can't park , you probably are waiting for a table. It can get really busy on a Sunday.

This place was jam packed on a weekday. Not sure how the food was, but the coffee was awful. Plus, there was only powdered creamer or 2% milk to put in it.

I ate here two mornings while I was in Council Grove. Excellent! Biscuits and gravy the first morning (was thrilled to find homemade sausage gravy!), eggs, loaded hash browns, bacon and toast Sunday morning. Eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon was actually crisp just like I ordered! Great service! Had two different waitresses, both very good! The one from Saturday remembered me and asked if I got the cranberry orange bread this time! I sure did! You HAVE to try their homemade breads! So good!I think I’ll be full the rest of the day!Thank you Saddlerock for a perfect start to my days! I will definitely be back sometime!

Ordered a Ruben and got a sandwich with CANNED CORN BEEF HASH! couldn't even eat it. This was my last try after being dissatisfied but not to this degree. Service was slow.

The hearty breakfast was delicious. We had eggs, loaded hash browns, bacon and sausage, and sourdough toast. Both the meats are locally sourced and tasted much, much better than your average cuts. All the breads are homemade. The sourdough was light and airy. Don't forget to pick up a homemade cookie or a loaf of fresh bread on your way out!
