Applebee's Grill + Bar

Ahhh… Applebees. This has been a favorite of my girlfriend (soon wife) and I’s for over a decade now. The nostalgia and atmosphere is what keeps us coming back, the food is decent, nothing to write home (or a review) over. But the service… is something worth noting, our most recent trip has us being seated as our drinks and food got to our table, at least that’s how it seemed!

Phenomenal service, exceptional atmosphere for a cheap dinner date out! Shout out to Applebees in Garden City, KS. It truly is “Eatin’ good in the neighborhood”.

Bad service, we waited for a good 5 minutes and no one cared to at least say a hello. No one came to seat us and it wasn't even busy, all the workers were walking around or talking to each other. Well, if you don't want our money, that's fine. We just went to IHOP 🤷‍♀️

Oh my gosh, let me start by saying that my friend and I, just two people, were seated at a high-top table. It took them an astonishing SEVENTEEN MINUTES to even ask us for drinks! By that point, we were already certain about our orders. We decided to go with a 2 for $25 skillet steak, opting for a rare-medium steak. The server then inquired if we wanted shrimp added to our steak, and we simply replied, “Just what comes on the steak.”

I had requested a water, but when it arrived, it had an odd taste, as if they had mixed Sprite with water. To make matters worse, our food took another thirty minutes to arrive. When it finally came, it was accompanied by shrimp and an additional sauce. Surprisingly, my steak was cooked almost well done.

I had specifically asked for ranch dressing, but it took the server a whopping TEN MINUTES to bring it out. By that time, I had finished my meal. To add insult to injury, I was still charged for the ranch dressing.

After we finished our food, we stacked our plates and moved our drinks forward. However, we still had to wait almost half an hour before we could cash out. Despite the frustrating experience, I decided to leave a tip, even though I should have left nothing.

Oh, and let me mention that the tab was a whopping $49!!! Even though we only ordered waters and the steak meal 2 for $25 we wanted, we were charged $5 per plate for the shrimp and sauce that we didn’t even ask for. It was clear that they had mistakenly added these items to our order because we asked only what comes on the steak, and we ate them because we thought they were included with the steak. Obviously not, almost two hours for this bad service. Applebees do better.

Apples saw my review, gave me a full refund, and offered many ways to make my bad experience better. Will say, it was not the management that made this experience bad, but the teenage servers with an attitude.

We’re from out of town and decided we wanted to go to Applebees for the atmosphere! Food came out fast, drinks came out fast and our server was exceptional. If you’re in town ask for Evan, he is very personable and a great server. He was training a very nice lady and she was amazing too!

The waitress forgot to put in our order and the manager came to say he would give us a discount when it came time to pay there was no discount. Asked the manager why there wasn’t a discount he said he could not do it due to others at our table pay for their order already. Don’t come tell me you will give me a discount and then not follow through.

Being from Colorado this was a good experience. Food was good, hot and well proportioned. Overall great experience.
