In downtown Highland who knew ? We went thru Highland for the first time since 1971 when I went to Highland Juco. I didnt even realize US 36 now routes a mile or two south of town.
Took my wife on a long road trip from Dallas, Tx. What a change in 53 years. Then there was a diner for breakfast and lunch on the east end of main and Ernie's bar about a block east of the college on Main....neither is there...even the physical buildings are gone.
Buuuttt Kirkwood has taken over. New (bot sure how new) building on the southside of Main a couple blocks east of campus.
Food from salads to burgers to plate dinners....all very good.
Beer....lots of great beers, even Boulevard from K.C.
Service is great, friendly, knowledgable and they CARE.
If you are headed down 36 east or west...get OFF in Highland and stop into Kirkwood.
Prices are more than reasonable even in the Biden inflated economy.

Nice place. Nice people. But don't order anything Mexican. Salsa tasted like spaghetti sauce, and nachos were horrible with Velveeta like cheese. I will go back to try burgers.
