Penny has a few restaurants, including a seafood one right nearby, but I think this is my favorite. Nice range of traditional Thai cuisine and some other more unique options.

Loved my Tom Kha, and the mini riblets appetizer was sooooo yummy. Staff was friendly and attentive and place is very clean. Lots of nice options in the Leawood area, but this stands out as one of my favorites.

Love this place. From the very first bite to the last spoonful of dessert, everything was incredible. We kicked things off with the mango duck and the tiger cried beef strips and both were packed with flavor. The duck was tender and rich, and the beef strips had that perfect mix of heat and savory goodness that makes you want to order a second round.

But the star of the night was the mango sticky rice. Truly unforgettable. The warm, sweet rice with the cool slices of mango was absolute heaven. It was the kind of dessert that makes you sit back and smile because it is just that good.

G was our waiter and he was awesome. He gave thoughtful suggestions, explained each dish in great detail, and was genuinely fun to chat with as the night settled down.

We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend.

Little pricey, especially for parties of six or more.

The food is good but this place is overpriced! $38 for tofu curry and a mock-tail (no alcohol!) is crazy.

I was really disappointed that there seemed to be sugar in all but 2 things we ordered. We do not eat sugar at home and I didn't think to ask if it would be in items like Rangoon and Curry. I'm also waiting to hear if their dishes have MSG in them as I also didn't think to ask about that. I just assume most places DON'T use it in the US, but 2 from my party were sick after eating at Bamboo Penny's. If you have special dietary needs, definitely call ahead and ask.

Went last night for my anniversary. Food was great, but service was not so up to par. As a server for a long while now, I know what to expect and how good service should look, but this was just not it.

First off, I had to wait 15 minutes until I was even greeted. During this time i watched (who would soon be our server) bus a table behind us, and talking to other servers by the food window. I ended up asking a host where the server was. When I was greeted, i never once learned the servers name. Was given waters, and was not apologized for the wait. Just welcomed me in and asked if we were ready.
Then while we waited, the server was giving us waters which was nice, so this part was fine. Once we got the food though, there was never a “how is the food tasting” a few minutes after we got it or anything of this sort. Was just left with the food and ate.
After we were done, i gave him the card and proceeded to watch him, go talk to 3 different people between the window and a POS station and stand around before getting me my bill back.

Now, I never once have wrote a bad review of a restaurant, but this service was just not good at all. Coming out for our anniversary, I was excited and i expect at least a little better than this. This isn’t me just being judgy as a fellow server, I bet he’s a great person. Clearly needs more training though or something. All this while having us as your one table isn’t a great look. Food was great nonetheless and the hosts were very kind and apologized. I unfortunately don’t see myself driving 45 minutes back though after this.

My boyfriend and I visited for our anniversary after hearing great recommendations. The food and atmosphere were both wonderful, but the service was disappointing. It took about 15 minutes before our server greeted us, and my boyfriend eventually had to kindly let the host know we hadn’t been helped yet. When our server did arrive, he mentioned he’d be right back but didn’t return for nearly another 10 minutes to take our order.

While he did well refilling our waters, he wasn’t very attentive throughout the meal, he didn’t check on our food after it arrived and was often seen chatting near the bar. As someone who works in the service industry, my boyfriend and I are very understanding, but given that it was a special occasion and a highly recommended restaurant, we were left a bit disappointed. The food was excellent, but the service fell short of expectations.
