Don’t bother going to this location, it stunk, was loud and no professionalism. The lady behind the counter was unprofessional by yelling behind people in this annoying voice “ can I help you” instead of waiting for you to get closer to you she screamed it across the counter and other customers. My pork sandwich was full of fatty meat. There was little to no meat on my sandwich and the fries were unsalted and dry.

I went to 101st and Stateline. Around 3:30. The nice thing is it wasn't crowded and there was plenty of parking. The person working the register is nice enough, but no way should she be up front. She is too slow. I was number 3 in line and stood there for 20+ minutes for a simple sausage, fries, and a strawberry soda, which is my giving a 2 for service. The restaurant is clean and I've been here many times. Atmosphe doesn't change. Downside to staying there so long is my sausage had cooled off and wasn't hot. Fries had just out of the fryer and were good. I always order them crispy. It's a simple fix to take my 2's and 3's to a 4.

Sorely disappointed. I won't be back. I took a friend new to town there, and raved how it was the best... I remembered Gates of a few years back, but unfortunately my recent visit was an appauling let down. For two salt laden sandwiches, a tiny side of beans, fries and two drinks, my bill ran near $50. I asked if there was any combo option, the cashier said no, so each item was a la cart. The overhead menu prices differed from the receipt prices. The State Line location was grubby, dingy, dank, sticky... Cob webs and dust were grease coated, gnats were prevalent and shoeing them away was a constant battle. The place was empty, staff uninviting, entire restaurant grungy... I cringe to think of what the kitchen might look like. Health department visit much? Idk... Tear it down and start over. At these prices, you should be able to!!

Charging almost 7 bucks for 4 onion rings is absolutely ridiculous and very concerning so sad to see gates establishment failing like this similar to 12th location the uncleanliness the lack of customer service such a shame

Sorry to say that the rating for the 1 star was too bc of too many gnats. I took my mom who was in from out of town and was wanting BBQ, e we’re a party of 5 and so we ATE and dropped over $130+ but sad to say it was not what I hoped not the greatest experience with having gnats everywhere and even in the cups.
Portion sizes are smaller but the prices are going up... Guess nothing good lasts forever. Great thing about Kansas City is there's plenty of great BBQ to choose from! Go Chiefs!

Been going to Gates and sons all my life. My entire family loves it. However the operation on state line is very poor. The counter service is unbelievably slow. And even though you’ve been waiting 30 minutes for your food the same girl that’s worked there forever will check the ID of a man that is over 50 years old for a beer and still make you wait even longer before she boxes your order that has been wrapped and sitting on the counter.
