Hadn’t been to Gates in a few years but had an out of town guest who wanted to try various Kansas City BBQ places. Ordered my standard single beef sandwich. This time it consisted of thick slices of dry brisket instead of thin sliced beef, choking hazard. Also, think it’s time to retire the “Hi, may I help you?” as soon as you walk in the door before the menu is even visible. Was last on our list of best KC BBQ of the 5 places where we eat.

Got the double-decker combo, beef and turkey and it was absolutely delicious. Gates is absolutely classic Kansas City barbecue. Great sauce, consistent meat.

KC has many good BBQ places, actually there's a new one every week. Gates is still fantastic. But, if you're hoping to get in and out in a hurry, nope.

I don’t know if it was because it was a slow night or what but not a single item that was ordered was done right, ribs over cooked, burnt-e-Mac dry to from the noodles to the meat and the fries werent seasoned, I expect better for $50

Always a great meal with friendly service. Love all the employees. Had the best BBQ and watched a Chiefs game on TV. This is an original iconic spot for lunch or dinner.

I went to pick up a DoorDash order and had to wait 30 minutes. It's horrible, and you can't even ask how long your order takes; the girls at the front desk don't care about delivery orders.

My neighbors 16th wedding anniversary yesterday and they ate there. Said the food was TERRIBLE AND UNCOOKED...how sad...used to be good but guess not anymore...how sad...they did say, they WILL NOT GO BACK

I was excited to try the burnt end fries and they were terrible. The fries were soggy from the packaging. It was barely any sauce or meat and the meat that was on there was super fatty. Definitely not worth the price

The most impolite customer service, beyond Rude, beyond impatient. If you want to be ignored and treated like trash and still forget your sauce, suit yourself!

I was on business travel to Kansas City for a few days and I was told the barbecue here was really good. My hotel was near this place so I figured I would give it a try. The only barbecue we have back home is Rudy’s and I was expecting this to be much better, but unfortunately, I was disappointed. The brisket was very dry and did not have as much flavor as Rudy’s the sides were pretty good, but I was really disappointed with the barbecue. I will have to try some other barbecue places before I leave town.
