Saltwell Farm Kitchen is hands down our favorite romantic dinner spot. We’ve been a few times now and it never misses. Just know what you’re signing up for. It’s about 45 to 60 minutes from KC, and you’ll want to plan on being there for at least three hours. Do not let this dissuade you from going.
When you arrive at the farm, you’ll likely be greeted by Jim, who might become your temporary dinner date if yours steps away for a moment. From there, you’re ushered through the open kitchen where you get a sneak peek at the magic happening behind the scenes. The eclectic seating makes it feel like you’re dining among family, and it somehow works perfectly.
Drinks appear quickly, and before you know it the courses start rolling out. Three hours go by in a blink, not because anyone hurries you, but because you've entered a magical portal where this moment, this food, and these people are everything you need. You can wander the grounds between courses, say hi to the chickens, and debate which dish was the standout. And you will debate, because the combinations are wild in the best way. Chili with toasted cumin icing (it's been a long time since we had this and I still can remember the taste). Chicken pops with funnel cake. Sirloin with hibiscus. Things you never thought to put together and not only do they work, but later you will crave them.
We’ll keep coming back for as long as Saltwell exists. It’s truly special.

This was one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The food, service and ambiance were outstanding. I loved every minute of our experience and will definitely be back. Thank you for a memorable evening!
The team works hand in hand and is extremely accommodating. The flavors of each dish will make you want seconds.
This is a very romantic setting for couples. Jim is a excellent host and Tyler will make sure all your wine pairings are perfect for each course.

We enjoyed a phenomenal belated anniversary dinner last night at Saltwell. It was our first time back since a 2023 fire forced them to shutter their doors for restoration. The experience starts with a scenic 30-minute drive down winding country roads, past rolling fields and limestone fences, to an 1800's-era farmstead complete with rustic barns and a host of farm animals. A six-course farm-to-table menu is served inside the farmhouse over a leisurely 3-4 hour period. The food and staff are amazing, but what truly sets Saltwell apart is its heart. Every single detail radiates love, intention, and passion. Owners Rozz Petrozz and Shantel Grace have created something unique and truly extraordinary. If food is your love language, this place is an absolute must!
Lovely ambience and the staff were very nice. Had a lovely cous cous salad course and the focaccia is absolutely to die for. The sirloin main course was tasty, but it was served with mashed potatoes shaped like something from a school cafeteria. The dessert was forgettable by the time we got around to it. The pace of service was awfully slow. We didn’t leave until 4 hours after we’d arrived and that’s too long for my tastes. Considering we paid 125 a head this fell short of what I expected from the reviews.

I can’t say enough good things about Saltwell Farm Kitchen. From the moment we walked through the front door and into the kitchen, we were greeted by the chef and staff like we were old friends. The whole experience felt like a holiday dinner at a close relative’s home—warm, inviting, and completely relaxing. The setting is stunning. The farmhouse, surrounded by a walnut grove and farm animals, feels like the perfect backdrop for a meal made with the freshest local ingredients. It’s beautiful and makes you feel like everything on your plate was grown just steps away. The food was incredible. The focaccia bread and “liquid gold” starter blew me away—it’s something I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Every course after that just got better and better. They combined ingredients I’d never expect, but somehow it all worked perfectly. I’m usually pretty skeptical about fancy-sounding dishes, but this was next level. The drinks were just as impressive. They paired so well with the food, and you could tell a lot of thought went into them. Kitty, Jimmy, and the whole team were amazing. They were so knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. You could tell they genuinely cared about making sure everyone had a great time. It felt like they weren’t just serving food—they were sharing something they’re really passionate about. At first, I wasn’t sure if the price would be worth it, but halfway through the meal, I knew it absolutely was. This isn’t just dinner; it’s an experience. And the best part? It’s not pretentious at all—you don’t have to worry about things like which fork to use. It’s just good food, good people, and a good time. We ate indoors and loved the cozy atmosphere. Honestly, this was hands down the best dinner I’ve ever had. If you’re on the fence about going, just do it. You won’t regret it.
If interested in a leisurely meal in an eclectic setting over a period of three hours, then you will love Saltwell Farm. If you are interested in faster service, easy to locate and a formal environment, then you will be disappointed. The food was outstanding for the setting. This meal was enjoyed in the fall, so the selection and such were a root vegetable accent. Setting for about 40 or may be 50 may be served over the Friday or Saturday nights of service.
That stated the following was my review
Location: Somewhat out of the way, do not let the Overbrook address fool you, you are closer to Lawrence and south of Clinton Reservoir. 4/5
Food: Quality preparation and variety. Not too much, not too little. 5/5
Ambiance: Eclectic, a converted farm house with sections turned into dining areas. Glassware, silverware, and dishes were an interesting mix of sources. 5/5
Service: Staff were friendly and attentive. Only quibble was they congregate around the bar getting drinks creating a banter that may annoy some. 4/5
Overall, I would give it 4.5/5 if not bothered by the duration. If bothered by duration of a meal, it would be 3.5/5

Overpriced and unwhelming.
Charging Michelin prices for luke warm, over thought food just isnt a winning combination.
6 course dinner at $125, extremely small and overly complicated courses, plus additional $10 for maybe a tablespoon of morrell butter?
Muddled palate, far too many competing flavors fighting for attention.
Did I mention a cup of coffee was something like $6?
This place has promise, but there needs to be some soul searching and culinary discipline embraced.
Service was confused, slow and oddly uncomfortable due to no less than 6 or 7 people randomly hitting our table from time to time.
